fai17 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I touch goats The guts can be replaced without the housing . Are you using an aftermarket airfilter ? by any chance ? Al. I was just going to say that Ally...
colin_ross Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 could a maf lunch itself in a year? Try in an afternoon mate. I had a fun day ay crail and gubbed mine withing the space of 3 hours. It was coated with oil as I hadn't vented my breathers and oil had been drawn up and contaminated it. If you have a 99/00 then you only replace the censor (£78). I had to do this before going mafless so I've got one with 300 miles on it if you need a good one to test it. Or you could just reset the ecu and see if it throws up a cel error.
WRC No 1 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 http://www.derekcarswell.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/pages/ecu.htm davie if u need help give us a call m8 wullie
AVI_8 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 My car has started doing the same thing, I spoke to Paul from Dastek the other day when I was at Knockhill, he also said that it sounds like the MAF sensor, mines a year 2000, seemingly the 99 - 00 cars are very prone to this, running your car with a performance air filter increases your chances of this happening. I was advised to take it out and clean it with brake cleaner and to wipe the sensor bit (small pad I think he said) with a cotton bud but not to touch it with fingers.
bigdavie Posted May 17, 2006 Author Posted May 17, 2006 well cheers for all the help folks i went into premier auto electrics but they couldnt test it for me so i bit the bullet and travelled down to greers and as always a1 service from jason he checked for error codes and it came up with 2 3 which is maf !! so went down to s+s £72 later i'm happy !! well kind of it now seems as though ive lost some power ?? will this be the ecu resetting itself or have i lost my tek 3 map ? or am i just imagining things now ?? lol cheers
colin_ross Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 When the maf fails the car runs lean, dangerously lean. One of the side effects of this is the car runs like a bloody rocket, so much so it melts a piston and bang goes your engine. So, you may well be down on power but you're all the better for it.
bigdavie Posted May 17, 2006 Author Posted May 17, 2006 cool cheers for that !! thought i was going nut's !!
