Dump Valves

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Does a dump valve affect engine power, consumption etc. or are they installed mostly for the sound effect?

Much does it cost including fitting?

Cheers

The purpose of a dump valve is to keep the turbine in the turbo spinning between gear changes, hence no turbo lag.  So thats the only real benefit, no power.  I was also advised they really are just cosmetic, unless you are running a really high boost.

I had one on my old RS turbo, after 6 months it was doing my nut in so I cut the top of my mums broom handle off and removed the valve and jammed the wood in to get peace!

Best just gettin a filter if you have not already got one.
