iain_ogston Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Right, the results are in. My car officially does 18mpg after its rebuild on plain old optimax. Thats just under 200 miles to a tank, but I'm not too light on the right foot, sustaining anywhere between 1.2 and 1.5 bar under acceleration depending on gear/load. It's an RA gearbox so runs at quite high revs on the dualler. Is this figure good or bad? I've no markers to compare this against so would like real world figures for standard STIs please, running optimax.
st3ph3n Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I'm the resident sad barsteward who keeps a spreadsheet of how much I put in, at what cost and how many miles I get. I've been doing this for over 6 months now and I'm at a lifetime average of 23 and a bit. I'm reasonably lead footed too. Why accelerate slowly when you can accelerate quickly?!?!? That's on a MY05 WRX with just a backbox and a DV. But more is to come []
iain_ogston Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 Cheers for that! I'm pretty happy then. If a standardish WRX is making 23 then 18 on a modded car isn't bad at all. I have a spreadsheet too, since car clocks up km and I buy litres of petrol, MPG requires a bit of thought lol
hammy Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 i have got a my02 sti with a dv and a boost gauge and i get 200 miles out of a full tank heavy right foot tho
tazman Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I run a near standard wrx wagon, the only mod is a pipercross viper induction kit and I'm normally light footed with the old throttle..........and I normally get 320 miles out of a tank of optimax!!
iain_ogston Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 Wow 320 miles. That's a long way. No way I could achieve that, I'd have to freewheel downhill or push the last 100 lol. Trouble is I *love* to hear the whine of the turbo and feel the acceleration, so it's hard to stop booting it up to above 1 bar pulling away from every junction and roundabout. To me, that's the fun in owning a modified scoob. 18 MPG is the payback for the way I drive I guess.
uk_Mo Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I have a standard WRX Import 1995 model, all i have done to it is Forge motorsport DV,Ninja Centre & Rear Exhaust. and im lucky if i get 200 miles from £30 Optimax dont really boot it that much and i worked it out to be roughly 30mpg but i dunno if this is right. Mo
fai17 Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Me get about 180miles to the last quarter mark and my car is fairly standard.
G.Mac Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I get usually about 210 to the last 1/4 in mine, also fairly standard but not with Gems!!!![][] The most I have seen to a full tank was 293.5 miles and still had 5.5L in the tank (based on info that tank is 60L) Graeme
granby Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Glad i'm not the only 1 who uses a spreadsheet to keep track of what MPG they get, i have a modded 2004 WRX wagon and i average 23mpg, i'm not overly heavy footed and a lot of my mileage is around town
tazman Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Wow 320 miles. That's a long way. No way I could achieve that, I'd have to freewheel downhill or push the last 100 lol. If its any consalation I did a trip to the Nurburgring ant the begining of April..........on the Sunday I did 170miles in total around the 'ring' and managed to use 46 litres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![]
