STi_Bandit Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 whats the best place to get the windows on the car tinted and price, also what is the legal amount of tint allowed. Should the tinter remove the windows or just apply the film to the window, talked to one guy said he could do it with the windows in place, I wasnt to keen on that idea. Also any one got a pic of a newage blue sti with tints on it. Martin
G.T. Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 ive seen a p1 with blue tints in it and wasnt overly impressed id imagine they would be able to tint them while they are still in the car. i think you can go as dark as you like on the back windows and the fronts if they are already tinted i dont think that legaly you can tint them, but the guy at the place that does them should be able to tell you more
STi_Bandit Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 ive seen a subaru with the mirrior tint and i have to say it look awful IMHO, sorry if anyone has mirror dont just not my style. i only really wanted to go for the lighest tint possible, dont want the febs pulling me over. loved the dark tint on the whitline car was so coool Martin
jamie_wood Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Here are some piccys of my old car. Not sure what percentage they are though.
oobster Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Martin, I used Magma in Bathgate to do mine. Wasnt there when they done the car, but i'm fairly confident they DIDNT take the windows out, and the job is perfect. No bubbles at all. Think they charged £50 per window though. The law states: Section 32 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations have been amended to include "Window Tint Films" where such materials attached to the glass are capable of reducing the Visible Light Transmission of forward windows to below prescribed levels (70% VLT for windows forward of the 'B' pillar) Basically, i dont think your allowed to put ANY film on the front side windows. A 'friend' got pulled last year and I (erm, i mean HE) got told his front windows were illegal but fortuntely they were only handing out advice that night.
STi_Bandit Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 £50 per window surley the rear window is more expensive being a larger area?? hmmm i really wanted all windows tined though oh well back to the drawing board Martin
p1ggm Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 theres a good place in dundee that does it, they just did all the windows in my mates 172, if you want i can get you details
STi_Bandit Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 Was all for getting all four windows done, will look at the cars at knochill on sat see if i like just the rears beign tinited, That or get a doctors certificate say the tint is for medical reasons :-) Martin
oobster Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Seems a daft regulation if you ask me - after all, you could drive about with really dark sunglasses on & it would have just the same effect.
STi_Bandit Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 think is was to do with neds having real dark tints and the police couldnt see into the cars to identfy the driver grrrrr. Martin
oletam Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 The real reason is that when you approach a car waiting at a junction it helps if you can see if the other driver has seen you. Also something about reduced vision during hours of darkness. After all you wouldn't wear shades then cos you couldn't see properly. Once had a black Celica import which had the rear windows done. Looked like a black van so I removed the film
STi_Bandit Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 Thanks to 4Hero tinted my rear windows what you all think
andrew_duff Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 LOL . [] what do you think Martin ? , thats all that counts m8 . But if you want my opinion the back windows look better with areally dark tint . Andy.
scooby222 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 if you have a look at the pics from awd on sat mine is the fourth pic, all four windows tinted by the dealer and i was repeatedly assured that the fronts are legal. think it was about 300 all in,perfect job and aint had my collar felt yet. well not for the windows []
scoobymark Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Got my good lady's saxo done at Advanced Auto Tint in glasgow, excellent job and did not remove any windows. They said the new law is that you can go as dark as you like on rear passenger windows and rear screen, but NO tint at all is allowed on the front driver & passenger windows. However they put a very light tint in the front for me and said at worst the cops would tell me to remove it, but any darker on the front and it is 3 points and 60 quid!!! All i can say is there is a lot of cars out there breaking the law.
