colin_ross Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I've got one. Started a thead on scoobynet about the merits of a magnetic plug in an alloy engine and most people said it was a good idea, especially as I was just about to run a new engine in. Will post a pic of what it captured after 400 miles when I upload it from the camera
colin_ross Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Here you go, Like I said, 400 miles and this is what it picked up. Here is the thread I started, hope it helps you make up your mind. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?...hlight=magnetic
bigdavie Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 jesus !! 400 miles ?? wow !! the cheque has been written and my new sump plug will be on its way up here shortly portly !! cheers for the help playsatan !
Grovit Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Pretty useful post - shame I changed the oil just yesterday and saw the thread today (arrrghhh!) - will still get one for next time though []
john mac Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Makes a lot of sense, simple and effective and anything that helps pick up metal particles no matter how small must be a good thing!!
wrxmania Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 My sump plug is part of the one for my oil temp gauge so can't use one of them []
gus the bus Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I sense a group buy coming on!!!! 400 miles and that much metal Foly huck[]
colin_ross Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I know, its shocking isn't it. The really scary thing is that this is picked up from the sump, not from before the filter. I've now finished running the car in and will be doing another oil chnage on it tomorrow prior to its final map. I'll take another picture and see what is on it this time, hopefully not quite as much as the parts shoud now be bedded in.
johnnyr6 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Never mind the sump plug... look at the state of that workbench!![]
colin_ross Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Better late then never. Did the oil chnage on Monday after 500 miles this time and here's what it picked up, Not as bad as the first time but I'm still glad I got one.
