It happened to me as well 2 years ago, bodywork was repaired but the window fittings still tell the story[;)]

There is little you can do, if they choose your car, then thats it.

Im sorry and hope you cheer up soon.

a bit of an understatement!

at this rate every ****ing panel of my car is going to end up damaged

After my old car got broken into me and my brother invested in an auto taser each, its a steering lock that has conductors running down the sides and if the steering wheel is moved before it has been deactivated then a 50,000 volt charge passes down the steering lock. Its not strictly legal in this country but neither is breaking into cars. Hope you catch the barstewards.

get it de locked fee thats what i done wi mine when i first got it gives them one less place to attack the motor ! and if its not already get it trackered !

I'm considering a few things at the moment....

My car is parked in a residential parking area...but further along the block...so thought about asking the people who have the spaces directly outside my flat windows if I could switch with them for a while so at least its at my window

A proximity alarm...so that it goes off as soon as anyone comes near my car! But its not really practical since neighbours park in spaces right next to mine...it would be going off all the time

The entrances to my block all have video cameras...I could park right outside the door and move the cameras onto my car and sit in the flat and watch it 24/7.....lol

I dont know what else I can do....someone clearly wants it...there's nothing inside worth stealing

Fee i had a clifford alarm system with a proximity alarm, and if set up right it shouldnt go off unless somebody is next to the car for a set period of time ( which i think can be adjust to suit)

sorry to hear the ned scum are at it again fee , look at the big picture though if they want it theyll keep trying and its only a matter of time before something gives and they get it

a tracker would be your best bet or one of them blackjax which will cut out the engine after a few seconds (but by then your ignition chambers already fcuked by a screwdriver)

or try a omnisensor which will let movment around the car go without alarm but as soon as an attempt is made to break in all hell breaks loose with alarms and stuff

ive got a website written down some place with all the gadgets and gizmos for this stuff , ill look it out for ya

that sounds more like it....

I'll have a look into it before my repair bill grows any more!

Easiest way to sort this is take away the temptation  i.e use your lockup and get a pushbike to travel to and from.

All manner of gadgets and gucci items are all well and good but what happens if you get all this then get the chance of a confrontation (which is pretty likely looking at police response times),  Are you gonna square up to someone weilding a screw driver or iron bar........silly if you do!!!

Remove the temptation is the way ahead.

thanks, that would be good too....

to be honest...they're not particularly good car theives....they cant even get into the car, so I doubt they'd know what to do once they're in!

Gutted for you Fee, can vividly think of that horrible sinking feeling when you first notice the damage.... makes me sick!

Can't quite grasp what motivates these people, surely if they are decent car thieves they wouldn't be trying to get in the car wi brute force, would expect them to be a bit better unless its just kids wanting a quick car for a joyride......

Difficult to think of any way round it, fair enough a lock up would be more secure but whats the point in having a car if you have to "travel" just to get to it...

Not much help but i hope you get it sorted somehow... hope you not too depressed!

The point would be that you still have a car and one that is not getting damaged by people trying to steal it.

Common sense really!!

That's my way of thinking though too....

and it isnt practical having a car I use every day parked away from the flat

I'm gonna try a proximity alarm and perhaps a steering lock to see if they act as deterrents, and see if I can park it outside the window so at least I wake up if the alarm goes off!

If that doesnt put them off then I'll have no choice but to keep it in a garage or put up with it being damaged

sorry to hear they have had a go at your car again, does it sound silly to purchase a wheel clamp that the traffic wardens use as ive seen those on sale,

ok managed to find it http://www.alarms4u.co.uk/index.php?page=cliffordaccessories (soz Fee i cant do clickys) theres lots of gadgets and gizmos here for ya , somebody mentioned steering locks as well that would be a good thing  even though they can be broken (if the ned knows his stuff , which i doubt) it would be a pretty good deterent as it would give them another thing to remove , pretty hard to do if theres alarms horns and beepers going all around

Hi Fee,

I also live in Edinburgh and have had a couple of near incidents. The best idea my cousin came up with was to buy a nice Momo steering wheel and get a snap off boss! Take the steering wheel out every night and generally that will get ride of the majority of punks. www.motorsportworld.co.uk He works for this company so if you want to go down this route give them a call.

Hope all goes well and try getting your local neighbourhood watch involved; that sounds so silly but the one around my way actually seems to have a decent bit of respect from the local police and they ahve managed to get things done in the past.

As mentioned by a couple of guys previous, if they want it, they will be persistant! A small length of 10mmSQ Steel wire armour cable with a gland on the end of it is always my favourite in the door side pocket!

Chin up,

Chris
