bigdavie Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 as above was dead cert on getting another scoob in a few months and selling my citroen to pay for it but was just on ebay looking at skylines and jesus you can get some good deals !! anyone here have any dealings with them ?? owned one etc ??
spooks Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Personally I would have a R34 Skyline in a heartbeat, one of the best cars bar none. R33's are considered a bit lardy , dave if your reading this sorry [] and the R32's are considered the tuners friend. Expensive to run, tune and basically do anything to. Dave ( kartman ) has a R33 GTR and a P1, loves both and both are good at differing things so only thing to do is drive it and decide. Oh BTW Im assuming its the GTR your thinkin about [] Spooks

Johnny50 Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Would love an R32. Unfortunately i cant afford one.. [:'(] But you never know, if the scoob sells soon, i may be allowed one..

st3ph3n Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I've had dirty thoughts about a Diesel runner and an S13 Drifter. But then I put my foot down in 2nd gear on a damp road and I smile again.
bigdavie Posted April 14, 2006 Author Posted April 14, 2006 dont get me wrong mate !! i aint gettin rid o the scoob its just that ive just recently chucked taxi ing (and looking for a new job btw !!) and want to get shot of my 14000 mile citroen c5 vtr on an 04 plate !! and get either another scoob or more likely a gtr !!
dave_morgan Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Totally depends on the type of driving you enjoy mate. R32 is the oldest and smallest/lightest. Consequently has the best performance potential, but looks pretty dated these days in my opinion. R33 is a nicer looking car, but as Spooks pointed out, a bit bigger than the 32. Describing it as lardy is perhaps a bit harsh, as it still drives like a very nimble car, but at the end of the day it is carrying a few extra kg's over the 32. R34 is the newest, and if you can afford one, go for it. It has a 6 speed box, higher spec turbos and although it isn't much lighter than the 33, has the edge because of a few tweaks. It also looks the danglies!! Really depends what you want to do with the car, and the kind of budget you have. If you drive a lot of fast flowing a-roads NOTHING will beat a gtr. If you tend to do more town driving and tight b roads, the scooby probably has the edge. Looks are down to personal taste obviously, so that's down to you. I like them both for different reasons. I think everyone should own a gtr in their lifetime, as they are a masterpiece of Japanese engineering. Shouldn't really be saying this on a scooby board, but they are in a different class to scoobys, as they build quality is impecible. But hey, that's why they're 60k new and not 30k!! As you mention, there are some seriously good bargains out there, and if you are serious about having one - get in touch. I have an R33 that has just had an R34 engine, turbo and gearbox fitted, so has the advantages of the 34 without the price tag!! BTW, I've had several scoobies over the years and currently have a P1 and an R33 (for about 4 years each), and it breaks my heart to sell either of them as they are both such good cars. Unfortunately I really need a hatch back now so one definitely needs to go as 2 2 door cars isn't the most sensible garage to have!! At the end of the day, drive one and see what you think. There are a lot of dogs out there though, so beware! Don't be put off by one if it feels cr@p - the chances are there's something wrong with it as a good skyline will never feel cr@p !!! Wing your way over to www.gtr.co.uk and pick up some tips. Friendly place, and some good advice flying around. My final word on the subject is to bear in mind they are still quite rare cars, so if you like turning heads, the skyline is way ahead again (especially the 34 !!). Nothing will beat an R34 in Bayside Blue for jaw dropping looks - they're awesome!!! Apologies to any dyed-in-the-wool sccoby lovers - but I'm just giving my opinion. At the end of the day a scooby is a rally car, a Skyline is a road going GT car. Both are top of the class in their fields - it just depends what you want!! [] HTH! Dave
