Who's Got Grooved / Drilled Discs

Grooved groan a bit when using them hard, especially when new.  Once they've worn a bit they should be all that noisy.

Personally, I'd avoid drilled.

I've got drilled and grooved front and rear discs with mintex 1155 pads, and i can only here them if i've got the window down or when next to a barrier or wall, the pads also squeal when braking at slow speeds if there cold.

I have Godspeed grooved discs with Ferrodo DS2500's........they do not make anymore noise once warmed up and occasionally squeel for the first few seconds after I move off the driveway.

If I could mod my car from the start again I would have modded the brakes first. On the last KH track day I was astounded at the difference over the standard jobbies. They really inspired confidence for hard , last minute braking

Would you recommend them though Des... what make of discs are they??

Are the 1155's not squealing when cold cos their more track orientated, its 1144's i'm looking at....

When you say you can hear them when the windows down is it loud?

I have grooved/drilled discs on the front with Mintex pads on my Primera GT - I have noticed them to be a bit better than the standard stuff.  I would not buy drilled if subjecting them to track use - drilled discs are apparently prone to cracking under prolonged "attack".

A good set of grooved discs with Mintex 1144's would be good for a road set-up.  Quite a few people have tyhis combination.

Right, as it won't be going on track and i can't think of anytime in my life i've really "hammered" my brakes more than once i'm thinking the drilled should be fine then.....

So... drilled n grooved wi 1144's on the front, standard at the back (for about 2 months as the pads are looking a bit thin) then i'll go for 5.1 fluid n goodridge lines.......

Sound like a plan then?

The discs are ebc tgd,  i have had them on for 4000 miles with no problems and i'm very hard on brakes (last minute hero)

I'm not sure what the 1144s are like as i've never used them, but have had 1155s on this car with the brembos and on my classic with subaru 4 pots and they work ok from cold and very well when warmed up, they do create a lot of dust though.

As for the noise when the window is down its like a shshshshsh every time the wheel turns, i was aware of it after i first put them on but now i dont really notice it.

Braided hoses and a good fluid are worth having too, i had my front and rears fitted the same day along with hoses and new fluid and it felt great for 2 weeks, but i cooked the fluid as it wasnt up to the job, i have now replaced it with better stuff and they feel great again.

Cheers for the advice all...

Ordered the discs n 1155's after all that, got them for a really good price so they should be fine... as i say i'm not a "last minute hero" like Des [:D] so they should be fine.

Are they noticeably weaker than OE when cold?

Next question, who has changed front pads and discs on a Bugeye WRX, easy to do?

That's what I'm running on - Mintex 1155's with 4 pots on a classic - would agree with the descriptions given - ie good when hot, but quite dusty - however would add they do give good bite and are pretty consistent.

Also have goodridge libnes and motul fluid which is a must imo.

I havent had any problems with them when they are cold as they stop the car fine.

Remember to bed them in before using them very hard, the first few hundred miles are the most important miles on new brakes.

Also if your changing the rears i'd go fo 1144's over the 55's if you dont use it on the track or brake very hard, as they will probably never get hot enough.

Yeh, was thinking i'll just go for the 1144's on the rears, again wi grooved n drilled discs, hoping they will hold out for another month or so till my funds replenish!
