Wee Jock Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Just had my car re-mapped with an Apexi & Apexi AVC-R installed, the car is running fine on 1 bar boost as soon as we put the car to 1.2 bar boost the car miss-fires like mad in boost conditions! What are the possible causes? All feedback greatly appreciated thanks wee jock Car is running with a VF34, FMIC, FPR, 550Inj, Scoobysports De-Cat, Walbro uprated pump, Forge Dump Valve, Apexi ECU & AVC-R
granby Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Have you uprated the spark plugs or have you checked them, could also be the coil packs
j-k Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 What he said above..... Basically, check the spark plug gaps, 0.6 seems to ring a bell??? Too much boost will blow the spark out, and so a smaller gap is needed for a stronger spark. Also coil packs are known to break down at higher boost levels also... good luck jon
Wee Jock Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 My Spark plug gap at the moment is .7 & I am getting new coil packs next week! I have also noticed when the car is in boost I get a chattering noise coming from the drivers side of the car, I have disconected the boost valve and it dissapears is this the norm for this type of valve, or do you have any ideas? cheers wee jock
j-k Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I thought that you got a new boost solenoid with the Apexi AVCR? Is your old one still connected? If it is , that will be the chatterring noise(solenoid firing).. Didnt Simon (JGM) fit and set all this up? Surely he is the best man to get advice from if thats the case?? JON

JON Yup its the new boost solenoid, having had a look through the AVC-R set up manual since I last posted apparently the "chattering" clicking noise is normal! (Does anyone else have this?) Car is not setup properly as we ran out of time, Simon's wee man in Japan sent him the wrong ECU! I am running with a second hand one at the moment till my new one arrives then Simon should be back to refit! Keep pestering Simon for advice, also thought I would ask on here as the more opinions you get you are more likely to find the common route cause of the problem! (If that makes sense!) wee jock
granby Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I changed my plugs to NGK PFR 7B's set to 0.7mm & have had no problems with them at all []
Wee Jock Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 I changed my plugs to NGK PFR 7B's set to 0.7mm & have had no problems with them at all [] Granby, from what i can gather i think I have two issues! 1. the coil packs breaking down under boost (I did fry one on Friday night, had to get a freebie from Barretts to keep me goin( thanks Phil!)) 2. the spark plug gaps should be .6 for my setup (also blew one of those as well, new NGK's another freebie from Barretts to keep me goin( thanks Phil!)) cheers wee jock
riceboy Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Had this on mine and it turned out to be the coil packs. My apexi boost solonoid also used to click when I had one fitted and so did my mates HKS boost controller. Nathan
