Selling to dealer

Has anyone ever sold their car to a Subaru dealer?  I want to sell my car but can't be arsed with all the advertising and timewasters.  Just wondering if this is an option, has anyone done it?

It's a Y plate P1 with 40,000 miles on it.

I know of a few people that have done this - it is more convenient but just don't expect to get as much as you would for a full private sale.

There are lots of variables if you go down this route... for instance, the dealer might have had someone come in a couple of days before and tell him that he's got 16k to spend on a P1, in which case, you might be offered 10, or maybe 11k for your car. [;)]

IMO, its worth a shot advertising it for free on the internet, places like Scoobynet, SIDC and Pistonheads are all free.. and have proved fairly helpful when I've been trying to shift cars... Selling to the dealer has got to be the last resort, even trading it in will give you more bargaining power.

Personally, I'd always have a shot at selling it privately as Grant says. An Autotrader ad is only £50 or so, and you're going to hit a big audience. If you get no luck, then go to a dealer and see what they'll give you. You will never get what the car is really worth from a dealer, as they know they're a convenient route, and at the end of the day, they need to make something on it too!! I think you have an advantage with the P1 though, as it is a bit more unusual than the run-of-the-mill Subaru, so should generate a bit more interest than normal. A dealer would be the last resort I think! (although you could always get a price from them first, and then at least you know your worst case scenario!).
