I have a question (or 2) regarding an old back boiler I would like advice on if poss please?

I have an old back boiler type heating system fitted, its was in the house when I bought it 10 years ago, got it serviced a month or so ago & the engineer said he had to switch it off because I didn't have a vent fitted (its situated in a chimney = bloody big vent). he gave me an orange sheet and went away. It was snowing outside so guess what I did []

I presume new regs have come into place over the last 10 years - but do they apply to systems fitted prior to this?

If so, where do I fit a vent - No way an i attempting to drill thru 2 foot of solid cottage stone, will throught the floor into the ventilated space underneath do?

Only reason i am asking is because I have just sold the house & dont want any comeback, although their surveyor never said anything.

Current legislation applies to all appliances regardless of age.

Depends on what type of vent he ment. One for the open flue boiler,

or a vent for the air space for the actual room !!

One for the room I believe. He talked about drilling throught the solid stone, but thats not gonna happen

I believe that one into the subfloor space (which has vents) is Ok?

Interested to know why the surveyor (level 2 survey) never picked up on it though, especially as he asked the boiler type

It has to be 100cm2 vented direct to outside, its not a new regulation but there keeping themselfs right.

It should have been picked up on other services.  The vents in the floor must be ducted direct to an air vent on the outside wall.
