eddiec Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 need to swap my wheels over in order to get them refurbished but am having a real job moving 3 of the nuts (all on the same wheel) any suggestions how to get them off ... having been using liberal quantities of WD40 but dont really want to force them too much in case i round out the centres would a short sharp smack on the locking key shift them ??
stephen_cheyne Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I had a problem with my nuts once! Ooh er! Got new alloys put on by a local wheel dealer and couldn't get 1 nut off in particular since they were put on new. It had an allen key type head on it. Tried with spanner and scaffold bar on the end of it but couldn't budge it. All that was happening was the allen key head was splitting. I thought I'd really buggered it. Took it back to the garage who put them on and they shocked the nut by hitting it with a metal bar then the put the pneumatic air gun on it. It finally came off. Hope this helps, Stephen.
chris_c201 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Do you have one of the "extending levers"? I had one on my last car that wouldn't budge, bought one of these that looks like a normal wheel wrench but the handle slides out to make it about 2 feet long, the extra leverage you get is excellent and mine turned no bother with it.... Might be worth a shot? Cheers Chris
eddiec Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 Chris i've got one of those, tried using brute strength on it and only succeeded on knacking the lock nut key .... luckily i had a second one but am a little reluctant to go down that route again
paul_honthy Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I'd suggest jumping into your local friendly garage and get them to buzz the nuts off with an air gun mate. Then once out put some copper slip onto the threads then put the wheel back on.Shouldn't seize in again.
paul_young2 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Had car since late November, better try mine, never had the wheels off. Short sharp hit probaly will do it or heat my do the trick.
