hi would like some advice on a knocking sound coming from my engine,  was out in i 2nite when all of a sudden i heard the noise,  any body herd this or had it hapn 2 them, i have an sti v3 1996, thanks graeme

 most of the stories ive heard of knocking sound coming from engines havent really been good ones

What sort of knocking? coming from the bottom of the engine? Dont drive it whatever you do, get a good mechanic to have a listen. My big end bearings went last weekend, V5 type r, not good[:'(]

hi yes i think it is from the bottom but not sure myself , any ideas what will be the best solution ? new engine or rebuild

Mine isnt knocking on tickover but as soon as you rev it,it knocks a fair bit, think it is saveable with a rebuild. If its knocking really bad you will prob need a new short block.

mine is doing it all the time but its not loud till you rev the engine , any idea of cost for a short block thanks graeme

i have a knoking noise comimg from my engine stripped the sump off after a compression test on the cylinders, no 2 was low and when the sump came off found the big end bearing has worn away, resulting in a nasty mess to my con rod and my crank case, i have a new engine on order. to much ware to salvage it, and would cost the same to put new parts in as it wou;d to buy a refurb short block

hi was just wondering if any body out there would happen 2 know where i could pick up a complete sti v3 1996 engine and gearbox with low miles think il just swap engines over if u do know plz get in touch thanks graeme

Sorry to hear your news, but it does sound suspiciously like a big end away. Mine went 3 years back (sti 5), and it was actually a blown piston, which subsequently took out the big end. I chose the "replace engine" route, as the repair option was too much of a potential black-hole!! Cost me 2k for the engine back then, but prices have dropped significantly since then.

Try Glenburgie Subaru in Forres. He's usually got a few sti's in stock.

hi finaly got a new engine for my car, thanks 2 all those who left me ideas, i was just wondering with me geting a new engine will i need 2 get this one re_maped or will it be fine with the program in the powerfc thanks graeme

just when i thought things were geting better with me having a new engine my mechanic was changing things over and we discover that the engine is the wrong one and thats after waiting 2 weeks on the engine being sent out i give up

hi found out it was number 2 piston bearing that went,  was wondering if anyboby knows the best place 2 but a big end bearing kit and heads bolt was thinking about rebuilding my old engine any help would be great thanks graeme

finaly got my engine sorted out after a lot of bother with wrong engines getn sent 2 me, get it on monday went for a new sti short block, just like 2 give a big thanks 2 liam at glenburgie - subaru for his help and all the other people who had given me ideas many thanks graeme
