Can you pay money into your paypal account through your bank or can you only transfer it through your paypal acc?

You can pay in by bank or credit card (AFIK)

u can pay by your bank but u need to be verified, to become verified they add 2 small amounts of money into your account e.g 2p & 3p then you fill out the 2 amounts on the verification page then its sorted n you can use your bank account.
