As mentioned above stick with the standard re-circ dv. This topic has been discussed a thousand times on scoobynet so just do a search for dv on there and you will have plenty of info, the main concensous being that atmospheric dv's are a waste of time and can induce bore wash through over fuelling. The std re-circ dv that Subaru fit is a well engineered piece of kit, much better than the plastic Bosch ones that some manufacturers fit.

As for performance there was a programme on Men and Motors a while back and they tested the std and aftermarket dvs on a blobeye STI on a rolling road back to back, they found an aftermarket dv to be leaking 1 psi of boost over the std fit dv therefore loosing power[:D

Couldnt answer that, bore wash is a long term affect basically unburnt fuel in the cylinders can get forced down the sides of the pistons and wash/dilute/contaminate the oil and cause damage over a period of time to the cylinder walls. Dont take this as gospel though as it is just info from scoobynet and there can be a lot of scare mongering on there at times as we all know[:D]!

I was going to get an atmospheric dv for mine when I first got it but decided to spend the money on other parts that I would get some performance gain from, I found when I had a dv on my previous car that after a while I got fed up of the noise.

Atmospheric dv's can cause idle probs though, I used to have a Punto GT3 with a bailey atmospheric dv on it and that would sometimes hunt at idle, I got a Collins twin piston dv and the car ran alot better (not as good as it did with the std plastic bosch re-circ dv though but it sounded good[:)])!

Subaru still don't recommend one if they do why don't they fit it?

all to do with emissions regulations

Come on Rob admit it you're just a boy racer![:D]
