D4WGY Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Ok folks, here's one for you. Was out for a wee country spin the other day, driving along quite happily when all of a sudden my car pulls to the left, and I mean big style! Friend never noticed, he thought I was just swerving to avoid some mystical object in the road. Anyway, had a wee look about, no puncture, nothing caught in the arches........ drove off feeling very confused and very cautious. Felt it a few more time but not as bad as before. Today, just driving home from town when suddenly 2nd gear feels like 4th gear, 3rd like 5th and so on... So, I pulled in and had another look around, nothing obvious, car was sounding perfectly fine. So, off I go and the gears are back to normal again. Stopped at a junction and there's an overpowering smell of burning hot metal, kinda smelled like tar as well. So, I'm thinking "Shit, is my clutch on the way out?" and drive very carefully for the 2 miles home. Had a wee sniff about the car and find that the smell is strongest coming from the passengers side front caliper. Can actually feel the heat coming off it, which isn't unusual I hear you say as brakes tend to get a tad on the cosy side but it was waaaaay hotter then the drivers side. Anybody got any ideas? I'm completely stumped [:'(] Cheers Shep
Baz81 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I would have to say that as long at the smell is comming from the brakes and not the Engine/gear box area it sounds as though your caliper is binding on and the brake pads and discs will be warming up and bitting. So once you stop for a while they could be cooling down enough to get going again until they head up?!?
D4WGY Posted February 22, 2006 Author Posted February 22, 2006 Fingers crossed that's what the problem is going to turn out to be. Gordon is gonna take a look at it on friday night ]" src="/emoticons/emotion-1.gif"> Shep
jcscoob Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 F##ked caliper by the sounds of things, You should get a set of second hand 4pots as fai 17 says if its broke upgrade it !!! [] Just be glad its not gearbox or internal []
RS Grant Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 He's already running 4-Pots on D4WGY... [H] Cheers, Grant
