oz *sti* Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Just bought a new Megan exhaust mainfold of the old ebay, now I have a sti v3 and on the up pipe there is a sensor hole and one in the manifold. The mainfold hole does have a bung in it so that can be block if it is not to be used, but the top hole did not come with a bung. Question is with my car being a classic will I use this sensor? if not does anyone know where can I get a bung to block it of?? thanks in advance guys.
drb5 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 You should be able to either get an old knackered lambda sensor, just to fill the hole or even weld it up, if you want![] Just to add, it LOOKS like the same sized thread as a lambda, but kind of hard to tell from a pic.[]
jamie_wood Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Up pipe one will be for Gas temp and the header one will be for the Lambda probe. I would of thought you would just swap your sensors over. No?
drb5 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 How'd you mean Jamie, swop the sensors over? If Jamie is correct, which i think he is, about he EGT temp sensor, it may be the same thread then, as a usual sized wheel bolt.
jamie_wood Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 If the car has still got its EGT probe then I would just leave it out. Its not required for Air/fuel adjustment. Its only there as a "last resort" or Fails safe for when/if the gasses get past a certain temp (1700 or 1800deg AFAIK) Thread size is just an M12 x 1.25. Get on from you local "Hardware" store[] or Halfrauds if thats easier.
jamie_wood Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 And its M18 x 1.5 for the Lambda/O2 sensor. But you have a Bung for that anyway dont you.
drb5 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I thought it was just the V1 and 2's that had the EGT prob?
jamie_wood Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Not 100% sure Dave. Woulnt want to say for defo. He will soon know when he pulls the old ones off. Regardless, its a 12 x 1.25 to bung the hole []
fai17 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 It's very hard to get a bolt to fit that thread. I had that problem too when i got my headrs and up pipe.I would either weld that up or get a time belt bolt that has the same thread(i think). Hope that helps.I don't think the STI has EGT sensor.
steven_williams Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Had a similar problem on my bugeye, but two threads on the up-pipe. One with a bung looked same as for a lambda sensor, the smaller one for a EGT probe. This one turned out to be Metric Fine and had to be made sorry cant remember thread size and pitch. Hope this helps a bit Steve
higgy Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Why not tap it out to a standard metric thread and then put a metric bolt into the hole......................Problem solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Higgy
