oz *sti* Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Hi all, looking for a bit of help had the cover / foot plate off looking at the ECU because that's as far as my knowledge of it will allow me to go and I noticed the earth bolt under the ecu has a wire on it but only about 3cms then nothing else wire has burnt, I have had the car over a year no problems. If this is a earth what is it from or what is it earthing?? Any advice? cheers.
insane clown Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Hi! mate, was the earth wire on one of the bolts/nuts that holds the ecu?, i can not recall an earth point anywhere there so chances are it's an old gadget thingy which is probably not present in the car now. handy if you could find the other end!!.......you'll do no harm undoing the little nuts that hold the ecu, have a good look around don't be scared that the loom may break or something, (as long as you don't swing it around your head!!). even undoing the 6 little screws that hold the casing together to have a peek, gives you an understanding of what it is when you see it in front of you[]........
oz *sti* Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 hi, yah the wire was attached to the lower nut that holds the ecu in place. The car did have a turbo timmer on it but that was taken of when I got a clifford alarm and used the turbo timmer on that, fingers crossed it is just what is remeaning from when that was taken out. ps. - forgot to say my car is a sti v3 import.
jamie_wood Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 You need the wire as far as I know. Its present on all the ECUs I think. Im sure it goes into the loom. I would be happier to see it repaired if it was me. Not got any wiring diagrams to hand so I cant even tell you what it earths or where it should go. Get a look at someone elses car if you can
johnnyr6 Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Dunno if it will help but my sti2, coulty's sti2 and playsatans sti5 don't have any earthing wires going to any of the ecu mounting bolts. I would trace the wire back and see what it goes to. If it goes to nothing i would remove it. If it's connected to something, repair or replace the wire, burnt out wires aren't good.

insane clown Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 yes mine is a my96 and has no earthing of this kind, my first thought it would be a good earth point for "a gadget" i think the ecu is earthed via the loom, coz it still works ect... when not bolted down? it looks to me with the burnt end and no evidance of any gizzmos, that the offending gadget has been removed, but check under there just incase mate[:|]
IanJ Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 The scoobyecu's have a wire that allows you to run the standard map. It's not got one fitted has it?
