pobiom Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 woohoo, i've been asked to go to the test centre as someone (i know hwo) has complained about the noise of my car. Lucky i have a tasty blitz bung which gets me a nice 94db, nicely under the legal 101bd requirement. So i'll go up to amuse them. Have any of you guys had any trouble like this before ?
Jimmy Mc Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 I always find that if you wrap the offended person's mouth round the tailpipe and blip the throttle they change their minds
Cret Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Not personally but I know they have pulled quite a few people for it over the last few months. Which is exactly why I'm planning on getting one of these: Apexi cunning device
andy_bray Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Hi M8 , I have had many Rally cars go up there and all of them have failed , If they fined the smallist thing wrong they will have you bud......I had a 205 1.9 GTI with a zorst that was putting out 125db.. and I had a bung in it , they found it and then failed it ...TO$$ERS... It is one of them Isle of Man things again....
grant_morris Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I HATE people like that!!!! When I had the '02 STi, the people in my street were cursing me cos I had the Blitz Nur Spec R with the baffle fitted. Funnily enough, no one complains about the bloke in the street with the Bike with the race cans fitted. Funny that, aint it.
andy_bray Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 << I HATE people like that!!!! Funnily enough, no one complains about the bloke in the street with the Bike with the race cans fitted. Funny that, aint it. >> This is very true Grant....
pobiom Posted January 27, 2006 Author Posted January 27, 2006 i brought my car over from a uk seller, so i had it go through the test last september with the blitz nur spec R on with the bung in. So i will just put the bung back in and hope for the same score if not, i have my old sti exhaust system which makes NO noise and i will swap them for a day or two.

I don't think it's the noise, but the resonance. It shakes people out of bed
grant_morris Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Nah, the noise is nothing to do with it....it's just that I didn't offer to take them for a drive in the car.
Dave K Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 Ba$tards, we'll be getting nicked for farting to loud soon! But I have to admit the Blitz can be bloody loud with the bung out on a classic. But this can also vary from car to car as Nick & I proved just before I sold it. I got mine after listening to Grants on his bugeye, so its all your fault. lol
Cret Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Amazed I've never been pulled for the exhaust on mine as it's straight through 3" from the turbo back and I've not really heard any louder ones, hence why I want to get that apexi thing for it!
pobiom Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 well i have never been pulled either, this is someone complaining in the street my girlfriend lives in, as when i go to leave at 10/11 at night, i don't think it goes down too well. Oh well, i have now got the bung back in and i'm getting it tested on wedneday lunch time, so i'll let you guys know. my only worry is i had this setup last september and i got 94db but since i have added an apexi dual filter induction kit, so me it has made no noise difference from the green filter i had before, but lets hope it hasn't.

The noise increased for well over 1 minute until I saw him drive past, then I could still hear the noise for another minute. Is there an easy DIY way to check how loud your exhaust is, I am current running it standard and would like to see what the increase is when I fit the decat, centre section and back box.

THink they measure 1 metre from tailpipe so induction noise shouldn't matter.
pobiom Posted February 1, 2006 Author Posted February 1, 2006 Brilliant, the bung has pulled it off ! only scored 91db this time ! that's 3 down on september.
Manx minx Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Good to hear, now you can go and annoy the neighbours again .lol ------------- Subaru Impreza turbo 4x4 '97 Subaru Impreza wrx sti type uk ppp '03
Dave K Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Cool, I take it the bung has fallen out now then? Was it the usual trackday test? i.e. 1metre from exhuast at 45degree then rev to 4k.
pobiom Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 yeah he showed me the batteries in the meter were ok. then stood about 1 metre from the exhaust pipe and asked me to rev it to 5000rpm and keep it there for approx 10/15 seconds.
Cret Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I've got an Apexi DECS ECV coming from japan now so hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to choose between loud & quiet at the touch of a button or even automatically depending on RPM.

I was going to say what about back pressure when partially closed in respect of the ecu map, but if it adjusts with rpm I assume closed round town under 3/4k then open out of town on boost over 3/4k.[] very nice Jim.
Cret Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Well, it should be good if it does what it says on the tin dude. Will have to get someone to weld it into the centre pipe though I presume.

pobiom Posted February 6, 2006 Author Posted February 6, 2006 No, i just have the Blitz Nur Spec R system on, which is a 3" system. It is only the centre section and backbox, not the downpipe, so i still have a cat on my down pipe but all others are removed with the system
andrew_field Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 How much is the Apexi DECS ECV costing you?
