sma01 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 is this something that would benefit the car?not heard much about them being used on new age, anyone got any views/opinions? scott
fai17 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I don't think you need one as the GEMS ECU already do that for you. What peak boost are you running Scott?
RS Grant Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Not sure if you have a high/lo boost switch in your car.. but to be honest, that would be the only real advantage that a Boost Controller would be for your car on the GEMS ECU... because it will already have been mapped to give optimum performance at certain boost pressures/revs etc. Cheers, Grant
st3ph3n Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I was looking into this the other day, but my propsed route of the ECUTEK map allows a high boost and low boost map, so I couldn't really see any purpose to it. Other than having a nice shiny bit of electronics in the car. I do like the Apexi gear.
wilky Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 An external boost controller will take the task of controlling your boost off of your ecu. Depending on what map sensor your car has will determine how much boost your ecu can see. So what alot of people do is fit and external boost controller if thier map sensor can only see, say 1.2bar and they want to run 1.5 bar, they fit an external boost controller and set it to 1.5 bar then adjust the last couple of fuel and ignition load rows to handle that boost. Or if you dont have a gucci fandango ecu and dont have any money for one, you would up your boost with a dawes device or bleed valve, then up you fuel pressure with an aftermarket regulator and listen with det cans until you have adjusted away any det. This is only recommended for experienced det listeners or suicide jockeys, and is not for the novice or anyone with a weak heart. Your Gems if my memory serves me correct will do all this so I dont think an external boost controller will be of any gain to you. An AVCR would however look nice on your dash, and I did enjoy typing this. Callum W
