Hope I am posting this in the right section, I'm new so be kind till I get too know you all please !!face-icon-small-blush.gif

I've been assurred your site is very helpful so ........... I'm looking to buy my first scooby.

Need some advice - firstly I have about £6000.00 to spend, but the prices of second hand scoobys seem to vary so much, I have NO idea what I should expect to be a good deal for that kind of cash.

Also, I am only 19, can anyone advise me roughly what my monthly outgoings would likely to be to keep the car on the road???

I would be using it for work, so travelling about 20 mile round journey five days a week, then mileage for scooting abooooot !!!

Thank you in anticipation ...........face-icon-small-smile.gifface-icon-small-wink.gif

hi face-icon-small-smile.gif

Have no idea at the moment, been checking out a few ins. companies so still working on that. face-icon-small-wink.gif

This is going to be costly! I used to use my scooby for a 25 mile round trip each day and the miles piled up. First up you'll be getting mid-low 20s mpg if you are remotely having fun. Secondly those services (which are expensive) will come round often. When it eats tyres you usually have to change all 4 and then there is insurance which won't be cheap for a 19 year old. For the money I'd try and get a nice classic shape UK car with FSSH, around 50k miles, well looked after and probably unmodded just now unless it (somehow) doesn't make too much difference to your insurance. My scooby was the biggest money pit I have ever owned

a few off the expects will probably be on later n tell exactly wot u need to know, but it is costly for the running costs, but then every1 knows owning a scoob aint cheap,

ive waited about 5 years to get mine. lol

I'm having trouble with these post ........... keep sending them before I've finished typing face-icon-small-blush.gifface-icon-small-blush.gifface-icon-small-blush.gif

I'm from Bathgate in West Lothian, quite a few scoobys going around here, any of you from this area??

Thanks for your advice ......... I know, if it's gonna be too much I might have to wait a bit longer. I realise it will be the upkeep rather than actually having enough to purchase it in the 1st place. face-icon-small-sad.gif

Hi & welcome !!!

There are plenty of scoobs available in your price bracket ............ just be careful & make sure you get a clean one !!!

At 19 , insurance may be a bit of a hassle ........... so again, be prepared to shop around for the best deal !!!

As far a mileage is concerned ......... let's just say that the local shell optimax garage attendant & yourself will soon be on a first name basis ............. YOU'LL NEVER BE AWAY FROM THE PLACE !!!!!

with regards to servicing , it's really up to yourself. Dealer or private garage ??? there are plenty of specialist garages around that will do just as good a job as a dealership ( if not better ) & charge you less. Place's like AWD & Hypertech seem to always get good reviews

Sorry my answer's are a bit vague ......... sure someone will reply in more detail who has more knowledge about scoobs than myself !!!face-icon-small-blush.gifface-icon-small-wink.gif

Good Luck !!!

Ally.

Insurance is going to be the killer............unless of course you get the sport to start with or you have just won the lottery!!! face-icon-small-wink.gif

If that is no problem then make sure that when you view any cars that you take someone with you that actually knows what they are looking for when it comes to subarus. Also don't just settle for the first one you see, there are plenty of second hand cars out there...........some are pigs and some are not, take your time and spend wisely!!

good idea.........the last thing you want is to buy one then 6 months down the line have to get rid of it because it is crippling you in running costs. Check all your figures out and if you find it is not going to happen just now then go get a good sport version, you can still have fun.........ask Rubythescooby!! she has one.

get a couple of years insurance under your belt with that then when the big 21 comes along look at treating yourself again but to a proper one...........a turbo!!

Am sure no one will mind if you go along and introduce yourself. Get a good nosey around the cars and speak to people first hand to find out all the info you want

So you think I'd be better forgetting about my scooby for another couple of years face-icon-small-wink.gif If I do that then I could go straight for the turbo ..... ohhhhh what a decision to have to make. I'm dying on getting my scoob, but I'm trying to be sensible about it which is hard cos my heart is kinda ruling my head !!face-icon-small-confused.gif

to be honest i would put the turbo on the back burner just now and save like a demon for another wee while. Get the sport, still bags of fun to be had, even on the light modding front face-icon-small-wink.gif

But then again the choice is entirely yours, you know what your financial constraints are and as has been said many a time..........listen to your head not your heart. Your time will come, might just take a tad longer than expected face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Remember............a scooby is for life not just christmas!!!! face-icon-small-happy.gif
