Cret Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Fed of my totally kerbed and badly arch catching wheels so with Christmas money it's time for a change. Can't decide which of these to go for though - any suggestions? All roughly similar price although gold ones include tyres (not really fussed about that though). Dark Gold Grey Cheers!
Dave K Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 I would say the Dark alloys Jim. I think they suit the car best and you stealthy build, but that's just my opinion.
grant_morris Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Well, if you are looking for gold, I have a set of 17" 02 STi wheels and tyres knocking around for a small admin fee.
Dave K Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 That has to be the answer then Jim to save all the agro with shipping, which IMO is a rip off to this island.
Cret Posted December 31, 2005 Author Posted December 31, 2005 Hmmm, may be interested as I could get those and get them repainted dark colour as the dark ones are my fave I must admit. Any idea what you want for them dude? I know the STi ones are half an inch wider but think they should still be ok for clearance. Feel free to PM me with an idea of what you're after or give me a buzz on 463787 if you like. One of the guys on my forum is potentially picking up a set from the south of England to bring up to the Graylaw depot in Skem on the 3rd so would need really to have a look before then so I can let him know. Cheers! Jim
grant_morris Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Pop along and make me an offer. Two of the tyres have plenty of life left, the other two are probably end of life. They're all Avon ZZ3 in 225/17/45 's. I've seen them in an anthracite / dark silver colour and they look quite nice like that. Grant
Cret Posted December 31, 2005 Author Posted December 31, 2005 Yes it's anthracite or gunmetal that I'd want them to get painted really. Can I just double check these are the ones with 5 pairs of spokes on each wheel? The 'pairs' of spokes flare outwards a bit from each other? Have a you got a number I can give you a buzz on Grant? Cheers Jim
grant_morris Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Exactly like those wheels. Although mine almost look anthracite at the moment due to the brake dust. I think I'll clean them. I'll pm you my number shortly. Grant
grant_morris Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 I've just had a dig around in the old alladin's cave. Along with the 4 wheels I also have 2 Bridgestone Potenza RE 010 tyres that could be used on those rims, thrown in for free if you want them.
Cret Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 Cool Will give you a buzz tomorrow to come & have a look at them. Just realised I think I've left my bloody trolley jack down south again too.
andy_bray Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Nice wheels you have got there Jim .... Hey Grant you have not got any more STI alloys hanging around.... LOL
andy_bray Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Have you a set like you have just sold to Jim ???Grant...
grant_morris Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Unfortunately not. I have the '06 STi wheels lying around now. Depending upon whether the other half does with her car this year, I might be able to do you a swap for some Prodrive Gold 18" PFF's
Cret Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 Well the wheels are on now and even with the wider tyres - 225 instead of 215 - they sit further inside the arches so catch less (ie hardly at all!). Shows how wrong the offset on the old ones must have been!! Only place where there was a clearance problem it seems was the rear spring cups where the tyre just touched it lightly, but operation lump hammer has cured that minor issue. Very pleased - thanks for those Grant.
grant_morris Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Cool, glad they fit. Is there much of a ride difference between the wheel sets?
Cret Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 Bit early to say really so far as I've only driven through half of Douglas. I'm expecting if anything they will handle a bit better and probably tramline less because they are much closer to the correct offset. Quite pleased with them so I'll have to sort someone out to paint them in the near future.
grant_morris Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I'll dig out a linky for you later on the anthracite colour that was originally on the WR1 17" wheels
grant_morris Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 There you go, found one. Now go make the wheels this colour. http://www.viper89.se/bilder/040723uppsala...ages/image4.htm OR maybe...just maybe go wild and have this colour http://www.rarerims.co.uk/images/uploads/f...3978b1cf59.jpg"
Cret Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 The colour on the WR1 wheels is nice but too close to the actual colour of the car itself I think so it needs to be darker. Second ones are nice! Never know though as the gold might even grow on me yet....
