Guys

I'm having problems with my phone line which results in constant dropping of internet connection. Also getting a lot of noise from the phone line. Tried phoning BT helpline upteen times but they keep palming me of to another dept. Getting really pi$$ed off.

Just thought if anyone here can help me.

It it a Broadband connection ?

If so then it sounds the same as our problem that has repeated a couple of times over a months or so. Voice line had pretty much unusable crackle etc and the ring was inaudible. Modem would also drop the line.

Problem traced to the broadband filter : I've now gone throguh about 4 of these things and a BT engineer said that it is surprising how often they find tht these can fail. Last time I just swapped the existing filter for another one and all was fine.

If you haven't a spare filter then try the voice line plugged in to the wall socket without the filter in place.

I had this about a year ago, and contrary to others experience I got good service from BT - they had an engineer out within 7 days, who traced the fault to a nearby cable. He was able to swap my line over onto another cable and it's been fine ever since.

Same symptoms as described - crackly voice line, plus internet connection dropping out.

Very frustrating.

Try here - might be of assitance, might not.

Best of luck with getting it sorted.

Sounds like your line might have been dax'd

Anyone in 150 that's half decent at their job should be able to find out if this is the case.

your best bet is to use the 150 call steering to get through to homemovers...i've found them to be most helpful (with non-homemoving enquiries) as they have reasonable training and are not under the same target/service pressure as other depts.

Had this problem in my last house. Had BT broadband, crackly line and

kept cutting out. Went through a few filters and even a new modem.

Apparantly if you have two many phone lines off one filter it causes a problem.

i.e a socket at the front door with one filter and every other phone in the house off that filter.

Dont forget to use a filter near the sky box if thats connected to the phone.

In this house its the same BT broadband service but with no problems. Its a different type of modem

and different filters. Have only one phone connected as the rest are cordless. It has never cut off once and the line doesnt crackle.

Anyway if you have the option then get cable.

<< I'm having problems with my phone line which results in.................. >>

Hi Gordon, I had the same problem a while back..... to cut a long story short it turned out to have been cause by lightning. The line had been hit and fused 4 of the available 5 pairs to the house. Once they had been changed over it was fine.

Another tip would be to phone BT and have them up the gain to the house.. That may help too..

Hope this helps...

Cheers,

Can it be the modem? It's an old BT Voyager 100 and I've had it for about 2 years now. Just changed the filters for new ones and changed the cables to the BT phone socket but still the same.

Please help.
