on wed night a car tried to squeeze past me, from behind, by going in the opposit carrigway and sneak a right turn at the junction as i was waiting in traffic to turn left. there was no room and he scraped his car against my rear 1/4panel and bumper scuffing, scratching and denting it.

the old dude admitted it was his fault and aplogised, we exchneged details and he offered to pay for repair.

yester i then went and got 2 quotes from a mr.T suggested bodyshop and another reputable quality shop.

both said the bumper would need repainted and the rear 1/4panel with some time trying to get the dent out.

quotes were circa 260+vat.

so just off phone withthe old dude who refused to pay so much, thinks hes being held to ransom.i'm well p*ssed off!!!!

he - says its too much and he never thought it would be so much!

admits its his fault and that he was at fault but said that circa 300 was too much, arranged to meet up with him later and i offered the chance of trying to find a lower cost quote, gonna try a bodyshop after asking him to to suggest one, that way if they come back with a similar price he cant argue about it as he suggested it.

just got a sick feeling he'll make this difficult...

i havent reported to the police or my insurance (as i dont want my no claims effected) - any suggestiosn on doing this and constructive ones if the old codger wont pay up? one thing though he is keen not to go through his insurance...?

i've never been involved in an accident or had to make a claim, any suggestions?

there was no visible damage on his suzuki baleno, not that i cared to look i was just to upset at the state of my immaculate paint work...

To be honest mate if the old dude admitted fault then go through your insurance your no claims will not be touched as it was not your fault so u keep your no claims. If u please phone the old dude say look thats the cheapest quote and if he still says no then take it to insurance and take his insurance for all he has got eg courtesy car and inconvience to yourself being without the car when it does go to the body shop.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go for it mate

Just noticed that your saying hes not wanting to go through his insurance.........

I think the ball is in your court here.

He might have a high £££ to pay if he makes a claim.

Just lay the cards on the table, tell him its not a cheap repair and that you r happy top keep the police and your solicitors face-icon-small-wink.gif out of things if he stumps up the cash now.

Let him think that you have taken steps to start the legal ball rolling but can stop any hassle if he goes to the hole in the wall right nowface-icon-small-tongue.gif

Good luck
