rossyboy1 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Have read the other threads and its got me wondering.... I was all set to get a set of Autometer gauges as they seemed like a good compromise between price and reliability. Ie cheap, but not really nasty. The advice seems to be to buy the best that you can afford. I cant stretch to the Defi BFs, but I notice that they offer a Defi D range also. Would these be a better idea than Autometer and do you still need the Defi Link Control Unit? Also, I spotted them in Flat4online, but is there anywhere else that sells them on-line?
drb5 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Defi D gauges are disconginued mate. Have a look into the Link ones.
chris_c201 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 This may be a dumb question but what is the huge difference in gauges.... On a mildly modded car will it really be noticeable?
rossyboy1 Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 I'm only really bothered about accuracy. If your Oil Temp is not at desired level yet, but your gauge says it is, then you've obviously got problems etc. I would guess that the more you spend, the more accurate your gauge is going to be. But can it really be worth spending 2 or 3 times as much? Surely the likes of Autometer cant be that inaccurate or they wouldn't sell any of their products
drb5 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 SPA's are about as accurate as you can get, but not the prettiest. Haven't even had problems with Defi's, but being electrical, i know they ain't always spot on.
wrxmania Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Autometer in my car - I find them clear and, as far as I know, accurate - they also seem stable and smooth, light up green like my car dials and have a silver face the colour of my car - custom almost Brian
SEEVERS Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Picture please Brian,if you would be so kind.... Del.
wrxmania Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Here you go guys... crap picture but only one I could find. A couple of others are attached...but they are poor quality - I have taken them on an old phone, uploaded them as attachments to SIDC and then put them back in as images Brian.
wrxmania Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 It does look really cool in the dark - better than the pictures show - all fitted by WUR JAMIE, in the freezing cold with an adapted Carbon Fibre styleeee Classic A pod pillar, reshaped and specially bolted to the a pillar interior cover
fai17 Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Brian:Is your car a WRX then how come it's got a center mounted tacho.I thought only STI has that
2559B Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 << Brian:Is your car a WRX then how come it's got a center mounted tacho.I thought only STI has that >> all new WRX car's have this ...... I had it in mine( 2003 WRX ), not sure about the bug-eye's ??? Not in the RB5 though ........... But they do have a nice WR sport logo
RS Grant Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 A friend has a MY01 WRX and he had a central speedo with a Rev Counter to the right....... Oh, and no WR Sport Logo!! Cheers, Grant
rossyboy1 Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 I think I'll stick with the autometer plan. They seem good enough for many....just cant bear the thought of spending £150 on each gauge
wrxmania Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 On the bugeye - the speedo is in the middle and on the blobeye (03 onwards) the rev counter is in the middle and the gauge needles are red instead of yellow... Brian
