Squeaking Window Wipers

Alright Guys,

This might seem trivial and i don't wanna offend anyone in light of recent OT threads! face-icon-small-wink.gif

Anyway, being the neurotic freak that i am my squeaking window wipers where driving me nuts on my bugeye since i got it so i finally got round to changing the wipers tonight, lo and behold squeak is still there..... arrrgggghh!!

Any idea's, i've replaced them wi Bosch so i don't think its the wipers, my plan is to give the window a decent clean at the weekend then WD40 any of the mechanics i can get in at ......

Please tell me there is a cure, just finished getting rid of the "whistling" seat belts and also a squeak at the passenger side after about 2 weeks of hunting it down and this is the last thing i need!

Cheers

Chris

Was thinking that as well....

Got rain-x there which i need to use on the rear screen anyway, i'll give it a shot at the weekend....

I honestly think i have serious issue's when it comes to squeaks and rattles as i'll often go through the "can you hear it" routine and no one hears it til i point it out yet its like a huge ear piercing drone in my head...... can't tune out no matter how loud the stereo is, lol

i think i seen somewhere somebody on tv wiping a thin coat of cookin oil on the blade, but personaly you cant go wrong with rain x

Anytime i clean the glass i always use clear water with some vinegar then dry with newspaper, apparently the acidity of the vinegar plus the ink on the newspaper is good for removing any residue....

Cheers for the info..

Chris.

What a saga.....

Despite my initial efforts not working i continued to persevere due to my sanity being at stake.

Cleaned the window with vinegar, then re-done the rain-x - Still squeaking.

After enrolling an assistant i try putting the wipers on with the drivers blade lifted off the screen, no squeak, jus as i start to think it is definetely the blade as my brother puts it back on the screen we both realise a slight squeak before it actually touches.

Next plan is to oil all the mechanism..... Still squeaking.

Then i remove the wiper arms thinking it is the spring on the back of the mechanism and soak that in oil - Still squeaking.

On Saturday i set out to clean my car but decided to have one last shot at it and ended up dismantling most of the mechanism after removing the seal and plastice cover that goes over the motor etc. Half way through oiling everything i realised there was quite a bit of play in the whole mechanism, when i investigated further i realised there is a bolt which holds one end on by going through the "firewall" between the engine bay and cabin, on the other end of the bolt there was no nut!!

I didn't have anything to hand that would fit so i put everything back together and hey presto the squeak is gone anyway, i removed the bolt and forced it back into place as its held by a rubber gromet and i think its enough to hold it just now. I'll pick up a nut at the weekend though.....

Now i don't have to drive along without being able to see anything anymore as i just couldn't handle the squeak! "Sorry Mr Officer, couldn't see as my window was covered in rain!"

It must have been the wee moose that you let loose while dismantling everything m8face-icon-small-wink.gif

I've got a squeaky driver side wiper tooface-icon-small-mad.gif

So i don't like driving it in the rainface-icon-small-sad.gif

Peter - Thats one of the reasons i had to do something about it, i genuinely was struggling to see at times but couldn't be bothered listening to the squeak so continued anyway!!

I'm now officially squeakbuster (or superlugs)
