paulc555 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Been looking round at a few motors recently.."thinking" of changing mine and already had a couple of interested parties... anyway...looked at a car today which is close to what i am after...just wanted to see what the opinions are on mileage.... its a MY01 bugeye going for a crackin price in the colour and style that i am after...its immaculate inside and out..with a full subaru stamped service history...but wait for it...its got 89K miles most of which were motorway i am told.....should i walk away....or is it likely to be okay with the full history...car has obviously been looked after...so what should i do.... ??????????????????????????????????????
Gumball Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Paul, I would say IMHO for what its worth that its too high for that year of car. By the time you get into the swing of things and enjoy throwing it about and driving everywhere in your new toy, itll hit 100k very hard to sell on for one i would think. The joke between Grant and myself for some reason has been "aye but its all motorway miles" the guy must have been pulling his hair out driving for 89k in a straight line. the struts, tyre walls, underneath the car must be perfect? I wouldnt take it but who am i to say? just my opinion mate
paulc555 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 thanks for the reply chris.... hard to resist it mate...its a crackin lookin car.... but i will wait to see what pittance he offers me in px for mine....
Carl Davey Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Having bought a MY98 with 82,000 miles three years ago (the equivalent of what you're looking at doing now) i'd leave it. I had a bit of bad luck and the bottom end went on mine at 96,000. To be fair the replacement (lower mileage) engine probably helped sell the car when the time came but i was lucky to get what i did for it with 116,000 showing. The thing is, no matter how great the service history is absolutely every non-serviceable part on the car is 89,000 miles old - bushes, springs struts, drop links, gearbox the lot. Although it will feeel fine to drive it will be soggier than a 30,000 mile equivalent as i found out. Unless it's dirt cheap i'd leave it. Bugeyes aren't rare and seem to be cheap enough due to the questionable styling. Hang on for something you don't need to question to see if you're making the right decision.

sma01 Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 got to agree with chris mate, i work in sales in the motor trade and that seems a bit steep for me...... if its a uk car you are after and want to buy from a dealer, drop me a pm, one of my mates is a salesman for subaru, i will get him to find you what you are after.... Scott
the squiggle Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Now that Jamie has sold his car KEEP THE CLASSIC McRae did not drive a new age, did he now You have a damn fine example of a classic Grant
paulc555 Posted November 16, 2005 Author Posted November 16, 2005 hi mate grant just after something a bit safer now...with the little one in the back...whilst i live and breath rallying, the idea of a 300bhp car with a lightweight body and no airbags aint for me anymore...after something thats still rapid but not quite as aggressive...... thats what im telling myself anyway...but im not giving my prime example away..will put a post up, but already had a couple of enquiries regarding it.... so if anyone is after an immaculate unmodified 555 blue sti3 car then give me a buzzz................
