scooby222 Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 anyone else get a high pitched really loud whistling sound from their new age sti at 3 figure speeds? what the hell causes it and can i get rid of it? hope this aint just me missing the obvious yet again!
JamesF Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 got a newage WRX and I get this at about 120 and its still there at 155 (on the clock at least). On my car its the drivers side window not fully meeting against the window rubber. Push the window outwards and it goes away, although its kinda tricky at those speeds !!!
st3ph3n Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I thought it might have been the Windscreen wipers vibrating. But I get it too. On private test tracks.
scooby222 Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 i thought maybe it was the mirrors,i was hoping itd give me an excuse to fit carbon fibre wrc style ones! o,and i was also on a private test track, obviously
irish al Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Have also got a newage wrx and have the same noise arround 120. First time i heard it i thought it was the wheel/bearing or something and promptly shat a brick. Put it down to the air intake but dont really know what it is. Anyone know what it is !!!
spooks Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I get it too I always figured it was air whistling across the scoop or scoop to Mirrors wind surface. Alls I know is I cacked myself first time I heard it. Sorry I know that was no help Spooks
Gumball Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 is it the wind hiting the scoop? the wind hitting the spoiler?if we all have it (not sure if i do) then surely its not necessarily a fault and more of a design flaw with them all? dont know
ed-209 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Just tested mine on a private race track, Whistling starts at about 120 til the car tops out at 148 (ran out of track) I did push the drivers window at 125 and the noise stopped so I assume it is air blowing across the door/window seal ( like blowing across the top of a bottle) Ed.
p1ggm Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 i think its from the spoiler, it is on mine anyway, its the cars way of saying your going fast enough to face a ban
paddy247 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 lol, you guys are lucky, At 140 Plus, my windows have a tendancy to start coming down
Andy N Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 You couldnt get 140mph. LOL Let the tweeking begin Paddy boy.
scooby222 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 so if i keep the windows down when im above 120, or employ someone small to push on the window then ive cracked it? if it wasnt for drive thrus id break out the silicone sealant! good job we love these cars quirks an all
2559B Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 it's the wind going thru the windows. First time I heard it ............ I $hit myself & slowed right down. Best cure I've found is to put the window down a little bit, then back up ..........
scooby222 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 yea, that was the fix on my classic but it doesnt seem to work on the new one. and the whistles much louder, must be to warn other inferior drivers to move out of the way!
