here goes. car failed its mot due to fog lamp not working. car is an import 1998 wrx. i presume fog lamps were not fitted to these models. i have on my dash a switch that when switched on doesnt actually do anything. this i imagine must be the for lamp as when the the headlamps are off and the switch is pressed; nothing. yet when the headlamps are on and the switched is pressed its lights up as to signify a full circuit. unfortunately nothing else happens. checked the bulbs where the foglamps would go and they seem fine and would appear to be wired up. thought there may be a fuse problem, but if this was the case would the swithch not light up, and not being able to understand japanese have n idea what fuse number it is anyway. bit of a long one i know but anyone any ideas. thanks martin

The Jap imports don't have a rear fog light,so u need to get one fitted. There are a few ways of doing this(depending if u have the clear STi rear lights)............I suggest going to AWD and they'll sort this out for u quickly and cheaply.

it sounds like the old one i had in my car, it has 3 wires on the back, mine had a loose connection there, also it is very common for corrosion on the connectors at the bulb. remove the bulb and wiring from the foglight and clean all connectors with sandpaper the reconnect. If you have a circuit tester make sure the foglight is getting power.

The foglight will only work with the lights on.

Mine was scotch clipped to the headlamp circuit and had become corroded. I replaced the scotchclip with soldered in wires and had no problems since.

Anyone semi-competent with a multi-meter should be able to fix it. It's no big deal

Where are you?
