Crail Stages 5th November

Right folks. This is the PROPER stuff at Crail. None of yer namby pamby straight line stuff.

The Crail stages is a proper tarmac rally and has been run for 30 years and organised by the Glenrothes Motor Sport Club. The whole airfield is used to make 5 and 6 mile stages with some very fast straights and tight corners. There is a good variety of cars entering including our very own Corsa in a ....Corsa! (can't miss it. It is a horrible yellowy/green colour) Thw wide flat expanse of Crail makes it a very good event for spectating...HOWEVER Crail are going to charge a £5 to get in but if you marshal you get in free, get lunch, and get a £5 petrol money! There's a no-brainer!

"But I have never marshalled before!" I hear.

"No problem " I say. There will be experienced marshals ready to hold your hand and keep you right. It is not difficult and is mostly common sense.

Click here for marshal info from Aberdeen's finest ADMC marshal's page

Last year Devlin and I had a bit of fun on the rally track as well face-icon-small-happy.gif

I will be calling the Chief marshal in the next couple of days for details but why don't all those interested give me a reply so I can get an idea of numbers.

Just talked to the chief marshal and he informs me that there are some incentives for marshalling.

1. £5 petrol money for all

2. Lunch voucher

3. Marshals draw with some nice prizes including....A PAX lap in the top rally cars after the event. The PAX lap will be quite something. A full speed run in a top Scoob, Evo, Mk2 Escort or 6R4 will be something you will never forget.

There is one downside though because of the switch to British wintertime the rally starts at 08:30. This means that we have to be there for 08:00. Personally I will get up in the middle of the night to get on this rally so it is not much of a hardship. After the first car it is pretty much full on rallying with a 1 hour halt for lunch.

Any questions post them up.

Had a pm from Irish Al saying he is keen but doesn't know what marshals do.

Without marshals there would be no motorsport. They are the vital cogs in the machine. The track marshals stand by at junctions, corners and spectator points to make sure of the smooth running of the event. They are expected to keep the track clear, make sure the direction arrows are kept in place, push broken down cars out of the way and flag down oncoming cars, kepp spectators in safe places and generally keep the event running. There are some specialist jobs with regards to event timing and parework as well.

Just bring yourself, plenty warm clothing some food and a flask.

First car starts at 08:30 and the event will run until it runs out of daylight.

That makes me look stupid face-icon-small-smile.gif.

To be honest i know what they do, I was just asking what I would be expected to do on the day.

Looking forward to this (but not the scottish weather).

Will be passing through leven on my way so u tell me where and when.

Dont fancy staying there till it gets dark though.

Ooops sorry Al.

My pm out doesn't work. I thought it was a good opportunity to encourage a few more.

Meet here for 07:10

Map

Just keep going up the A915 until you cross the River and come to a roundabout. Straight over (going to Windygates) and 1st right into a car park. I will be there.

probably best to pm me your mobile too

Fancy going to this, Me and a friend are in the process of setting up a photography website dedicated to motorsport events, Crail, Knockhill etc and hopefully further afield if it takes off.

We are relative novices at taking pics and just bought a load of new gear recently so will be trying it out for the first time this Saturday! lots of out of focus and blurred shots no doubt!

What time does the whole thing kick off and is it on all day?

If you see 2 lost looking soles wandering about with cameras hanging off them give us a shout!

I will probably be driving down in a white N reg wagon with gold rims.

Col.

Due to circumstances beyond our control we have regretfully had to withdraw our entry at the 11th hour.

Was really looking forward to it as the last run of the year.

So it is going to be me meeting myself!

Col and Pete: I take it you will be coming from the St Andrews side?

No Fifers want to go to this? i will say again that it is the best event at Crail by a long shot.

Unlucky as it was a good event although we got a drenching at lunch time. The up side to that was that the track got very slippy and cars started spinning all over the place.

So who were the Scoobs that were there? I saw at least 10 rumbling in to spectate in the morning. Some flyers would have been really handy.
