fai17 Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 For what reasons do you wrap the headers , up pipe & down pipe? Does it increase the bhp by wrapping it? Or does it just keep the engine bay heat down?
colin_ross Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Are we the only peeps staying up late these days Peter? There's a few reasons to wrap and no downsides. First off is keeping underbonnet temps down. Second is that the hot air flows better which helps with spooling and scavenging. The last, and most important reason is that it helps the car pop and bang like a goodun.
WUZ Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 It's worth doing for the exact reasons that Playsatan gave above. Hot air moves faster than cold. Russell
=Robbo= Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 And the downpipe passes next to wiring and a CV joint which gets dried out with the heat. Robbo
rossyboy1 Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Russell, how much would you charge me for providing wrap and wrapping my HKS headers? I would do it myself, but I'm not convinced I'd do it right
WUZ Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Wrap. and clips to secure it, would be 50 (enough to do headers and uppipe). Wrapping them would be 20 (1 hour job). Let me know if you want the wrap on its own to try and DIY the headers yourself as I can still supply it at that money! Russell ps - I would also suggest painting them as well as wet wrap smells like a wet dog (unless you like that sort of thing) I can do that for the cost of the paint (fiver). pps - next time I pass you on Union Street..............I will flash you (this time)!
rossyboy1 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Thanks Russell. I haven't seen your car yet, so I wouldn't recognise you My car wont see the light of day until April, so you wont see it for a while Thats when I'm planning on giving you the task of fitting all my mods before the trek to see Andy F I think for £75 it'd be worth getting them done properly. I'll give you a shout when your back on this side of the world.
WUZ Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 OK M8, I'm back on the 10th of Nov so I'll PM you then and we can discuss it further. Russell
frank c Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 I have recently decatted my down pipe before Andy F done his magic. Should i consider wrapping my down pipe or any other pipe ??? Nobody has mentioned it before, is this a must do option to help manage the heat , MY99 uk turbo Frank. ps; who near Edinburgh can do this for me if it is needed
