jcscoob Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Ho does what ?? I let my car warm up a wee bit before i drive it, then an easy cruz for a few a mile . Then a cool down for the last mile or so, then when i park the timer sits running for about 40 seconds/ish deppending how i have been driving. It would be good to see what everyone else does !!
TypeRA28 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I sit like in my drive for a few minutes to start in the morning, followed with a canny drive out of my village. Then pretty much the same in reverse on the way home. Will eventually get round to fitting the turbo timer that is gradually collecting dust in my house.
gus the bus Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Likewise guys, I let it warm-up whilst I shut the garage door etc... gentle run through the village and same in reverse whilst returning home and into the garage. Thinking about a turbo timer too if its not a hard job? Gus
jasonb Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I also do the same ie warm up run, then kick its ass, then cool down run, then the turbo timer does the rest but that dident stop my brake discs worping oh well time for bigger better ones
wrxmania Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Pretty much the same for me BUT when the thermostat says "I'm ready" the oil temp gauge says the opposite. It can easily take 10 miles of mixed running before the oil is up to operating temperature. I was amazed at how long it took at first. Point - don't nail it just because the thermostat gauge says it's OK - it takes a good bit longer. Best way to heat the car up is to drive it gently, not so much letting it idle I read. Brian.
RA Dunk Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 lol i dont have the patience to sit in it first thing in the morning and let it run , but never take it above 2000 - 2500 revs before its fully warmed up..usually i will drive around for a little bit at low revs before i park it after ive been booting it up a bit just to let the turbo cool down a bit

I was amazed at how long it took at first. >> I have not got a oil temp gauge in the scooby but have noticed that even after the thermostat temperature is warmed up to normal operating temp i still feel the car is lacking a wee bit of response, however after about five to ten minutes the car seems to liven up more. Was wondering if this possibly had something to do with the temperature of the oil and the fact that it takes longer to heat up? Just to be on the safe side i tend to just take it easy not going over 2500-3000 rpm till i feel the change in the response.
