Downpipe Fitting

Can anyone tell me what else do I need to fit along with my downpipe.

Have been advised to get some kind of lambda link thingy to fool the ecu

when it gets confused because there is no cat on the downpipe.

Just wondering what the cheapest price I can get one for and if I really need one.

Is there anything else I should be getting done at the same time.

Thanks

You'll need to get a Check Engine Light (CEL) fix, they can be had for around about £15 from all good stockists (might have a spare myself!) and it fools the ECU by showing a certain resistance from the Cat-Pipe Lambda sensor so it thinks that the cat is still there and doing its job!

ps - If you have had a Tek3 done, the Mapper can program this into the ECU and so you won't need the fix.

Hi Al. I had this very problem myself, I was abut to buy the electrical fix which is basically a resistor. However i found a much better option on ebay.com (not co.uk) It's basically a spacer bold that makes the lambda sensor sit just out of the gas flow. Totaly worked for me on a 03 WRX, no cel light now, also if you put the cat back in for an MOT you dont need to remove that electrical fix.

Interestingly the light only went out after about 40 miles driving, I'm guessing the ECU took some time to decided all was OK again?

Got the downpipe fitted today and what a difference it makes, definately acceletrates faster.

Only problem now is a whooshing noise from the drivers side whan i accelerate hard.

As i aint mechanically minded am not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

Any advice !!!

Also got the geometry settings done and the car feels so much better. Just wish I had this done ages ago.

Al dont worry bud, thats your turbo spooling up faster now due to the no cat holding back the exhaust gases up in the pipe. Mine does it as well face-icon-small-happy.gif

Its a way cold noise to listen to lol mine kicks in about 2.2k rpm now face-icon-small-smile.gif

So its the turbo making the noise, as long as nout is wrong.

It is a wierd noise but I do like it. Thought it was the air filter for some strange reason.

The exhaust is a weee bit louder face-icon-small-smile.gif and oh those lovely pops and bangs. Sweet as a nut.

Mmmmmmm whats next !!!

No the CEL Light didnt come on as I got a fix kit thingy fitted at the same time.

If you havent already done so then fit a downpipe, its so much better.

Am going to get a cat made up form an old exhaust that will fit straight into the mid section so it will pas the mot.

Get the up pipe as well Al it makes a big difference. Then an Andy F remap to finish it off! Worth every penny.

Make sure you get your downpipe heat wrapped mate if you haven't allready, as a bare pipe will burn the wiring loom next to it and dry out the CV joint near it as well. I ran mine for 2 weeks weeks without the wrapping and was told my was wiring was already "crispy" and the cv joint was drying out due to the grease being melted and running out of it.
