st3ph3n Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 My mate asked me what Oil he should get for his car to keep in his garage incase he needed it, and it struck me - I haven't a clue. So what rating is required for an unmodified new age wrx?
Gumball Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 motul 15/50 i think is what most of us use. would use this anyway, even if its not modded
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Do you find that the new ages guzzle oil ? When will the technology come along that replaces the bloody dipstick. Nice digital gauge would do nicely along with fuel pressure ( I'm talking about standard fit not like defi's ) Does CEL lights cover these issues ?
Gumball Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 it really guzzles it when your going round KH. my oil temp alarm wouldnt shut up either. i would say that after 2 tracknihgts its time to put more oil in it. The CEL came on on my wrx, but that was a couple of seconds after the bigend went so....did really help.
st3ph3n Posted September 12, 2005 Author Posted September 12, 2005 15/50. Tremendous. I'll be getting mine booked in for an oil change after KH I thinks. 3-4000 with a trackday is about enough I would think.
dipsy Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I am using millers 10/60 i never see it use any oil and this is on a classic my2000 regards oil this was put in at the service i got by Awd seem to check it more after Andy f tek3 remap.Cal maybe down to the oil your using
weeb Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 a f@*ked ma big ends, was told it was a mixture of crap oil and kicking the cars ass!!! a will make sure a use good oil in the future no matter how much it costs!!! ( cheaper than new engine or rebuild anyway)
Oilman Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 If the car is 2000 onward, unmodified and used as a daily driver then 5w-40 synthetic would be the best option. Cheers Simon
paddy247 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 10/40 or 10/60, The later of the two for modified or sti versions
jcscoob Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 10/40 for a low boost car 10/60 for a high boost car (millers)
Oilman Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 It's an unmodified new age scoob, do not use 10w-60. Cheers Simon
