dave_morgan Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 My phone contract is up for renewal so I'm looking around at options. 3 are offering some pretty good deals, but I'm wondering what their network coverage is like around Scotland. Anyone using them and got any good/bad reports ?? Ta Dave
st3ph3n Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 They use t-mobile for their 2G backup from what I remember. You'll only get 3g services (if you actualy want them?) around the major towns and cities, but you shouldn't have problem with 2G regular phone services everywhere else.
dave_morgan Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 I'm not really fussed on the 3G stuff anyway to be honest - they just seem to offer good free min/text packages. Good to know their using the t-mob network though - that answers the coverage question at least. Just need to decide if I want to carry a house brick around in my pocket now !! Cheers Dave
st3ph3n Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 They're less Bricky and frankly sh*t than they used to be now that real manufacturers are making 3G phones. Still a bit bulkier than normal. Think they've got most of the battery sapping issues ironed out too. I'm using an Orange SPV C500 at the moment and when I use any of the company Nokias it feels like stepping back into the dark ages. I'll never buy another type of phone again.
dave_morgan Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 I had one of the first SPV's and it was cack !! Used to lock up, eat batteries and was slow as a new age scoob !! . I heard the new ones were pretty decent so might consider it too. Saw an advert for a phone with build in sat nav last week too !!! Mental !!
st3ph3n Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I use mine for Sat Nav, albeit with an external bluetooth GPS receiver. To think the first phone I had came with no non-phone features, and the second only had snake.
2559B Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 hi dave, i have a "3" phone. it's the LG phone with all the 3G goodies. ( internet/video/music/sky sports/etc. the coverage in and around the central belt is excellent, however stray any further north than glencoe & you'll lose the 3G reception. it then resorts back to 2G services. you can still make calls & texts. Ally.
terminator Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Ive been with every network available and this is my second 3G contract. The old lg phone had a piss poor reception but the new nokia 6680 on the network seems to be the dogs B****cks. Im on 750 mins for £35 monthly with half price line rental .Go to phones for you as all other companys offer you line rental by redemtion which is a bit of a con.Phones for you will give you the differance in cash on the spot,to buy a new mod.The best network has to be t-mobile but deals are hard to come by.GOOD LUCK.
