WRXGirly Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Looking for some knowledgable folks to guide me here. 1) I have a classic WRX type RA. The whole motorway thing is getting me down with the short ratio box. Does anyone know of the most common changes in the gearbox area , i.e. love the rapid acceleration so would a late model sti 6spd box drop straight in ??All other suggestions welcome. 2 ) does anyone know a good impreza breakers , need some spare parts!! Thanxs Claire
oobster Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Don't know about question 1, but for question 2 try: a) Grade-A Subaru - http://www.gradea-subaru.co.uk Glenburgie Subaru - http://www.glenburgie-subaru.co.uk/ c) City Auto Salvage - http://www.cityautosalvage.co.uk
dave_morgan Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Don't know about your first question, but there are quite a few good routes for second had parts. 1) Post in the wanted forum here, as there's a good readership and a lot of us have got spares lying around doing nothing. 2) Try an online parts locator who will send out requests to a network of yards if you don't find the part online eg http://www.carparts-uk.com 3) Try Glenburgie up in Forres. Good selection of spares at reasonable prices (www.glenburgie-subaru.co.uk) Good luck! Posting on this thread would probably be a good plan too, as you might get some local replies so avoid carriage costs etc. HTH Dave
coulty Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 The late model 6 speed would need a rear diff also. You will be limited to the gearboxes you can put in without changing the rear diff. I can send you a file that list all the ratios of gearbox/diff that would allow you to make your mind up. Be aware that a 6 speed with rear diff might set you back at least 2.5k-3k !!! (and try finding one too!) Another option might be to get a late spec sti5/6 box and diff like i did and it is geared to about 160mph but sits at sane revs for motorways. Will still set you back nearly 2k inc fitting though. Talk to David @ API (01926 614522) who knows his stuff and can supply most of the subaru gearboxes. Just tell him i sent you. Stuart
