Bing Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Looking for some advice on what engine oil and spark plugs to use? Currently running a pretty standard (although de-cated) new age WRX. From memory im think the NGK7's were recommended for seriously modded cars but am unsure If they should be used on cars not so heavily equiped with mods! Cheers for any advice.............
Gumball Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 you will have 6's in your car at the moment. they will be fine. i have 7's and should be inserted before getting mapped. if your not doing that within the next 1000miles then theres no need mate. oil- MOTUL 15/50 is the stuff you want.
dipsy Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I have my2000 uk turbo full hs decat and jr panel tek3 remap and it has NGK PFR6B are these all right with the mods i have
frank c Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Hi Dipsy, Mines is going in for a remap soon and i have nearly the same mods as you. Spoke to Andy F and he recommended NGK PFR7's Hope this helps Frank
dipsy Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Hello frank c .Andy f remaped mine a few weeks a go he never asked about what spark plugs i have.Well the cars running perfect i get 18psi in 1st right through to 5 ie 20psi on my gauge when exhaust gas tempreture is up
frank c Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Happy days Dipsy.. I canny wait My m8 had his done a couple of weeks ago and Andy told him about the plugs. Luckily i managed to get a set at work because they are quite expensive. The PFR6's are listed for a standard my99 standard turbo
dipsy Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I have sent Andy f an email about the spark plugs i have
Gumball Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 andy has advised a few people recently to change the plugs to 7's prior to mapping. i can get them for £25 if you need them?
dipsy Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I will ask when at Awd on Saturday aswell if i don't get a reply from Andy f by then

IanJ Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 On the subject of oil. Found an interesting quote on SELOC. Has anyone done anything similar in the scoobs? << Oil - Hat eating time...... OK, I am the first to admit, I am always somewhat sceptical when reading claims of product X vs. Y etc etc. I have probably developed an over-enthusiastic nose for snake oil over the years after so many bull**** claims of XY&Z, so you can imagine my thoughts when Simon from Opie oils sent me some stuff comparing engine power outputs between different oils etc?. He seemed very specific about all this, and, having to do some dyno work anyway, I though ?what have I got to loose?? so I?ll give it a go?. So, engine filled with 15W50 Silkolene Pro-R Info, made 256.4Bhp Oil was then dropped, and re-filled with 5W40 Silkolene Pro-S Info, made 262.7Bhp So, I guess it?s hat eating time for me! Next test I want to try is with gear oils, and if we get similar results, then that?s approaching 5% power hike (at the wheels) for an oil change? Thanks go to Simon from Opie for his patience with the eternal sceptic (me!), and for putting in the leg work on this and other lubrication issues I have been struggling with. Notes: Engine was fully up to temp, water at 86C and oil at 110C for both tests, each test was benchmarked over 3 runs each, after the engine was loaded for several minutes to bring the oil temp up. BHP numbers refer to power at the flanges on a dynapack chassis dyno, engine was a K20A2. Please note these figures do not relate to anything else as they were done during tests on other parts/mappings etc. >>
Oilman Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Yep, that's me. And...................5w-40 in a 2000 onwards. Cheers Simon
