jcscoob Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I read this in our local rag tonight.. " the longest continuous speed trap in britain is to be launched this week, it emerged today. the system measures the time it takes cars to travel along various points of a 26 mile stretch of road and then calculates their average speed. If drivers have been speeding they could face £100 fines and 3 penalty points. The initiave starts on thursday on the A77 kilmarnock to ayr road. "
mazheriqbal_mohammed Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Hey thats not playing fair me thinks, i swear that when the government seems to be low on cash they try and devise new and more fendish ways to milk the money out of motorists!!! Here fingers crossed that they decide to scrap the idea.

RS Grant Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Aye thats REALLY annoying.... Surely there is some limit to this?! But whats to say, rip it down at 100+, stop for something to eat, blether etc.. then get back on the road after enough time has passed to bring your average speed down to national limits?! A simple calculation will allow you to work out how long you must have a break for........ Or am I wrong!? Cheers, Grant
Scoobylav Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 My thoughts exactly grant. Take a flask and some pieces and have a picnic just before the end
Rice Rocket Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 What part mof the a77is it, i know they have specs coming down from glasgow towards monkton and then left towards ayr and beyond is that the road that everyones talking about or is it the start of the new M77 at newton mearns if so where are the cameras at newton mearns? RR
Big Daz Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Good Idea, but it will not just be one set of cameras each end, there will be several sets meaning you could get done in a short stretch rather than over the 26 (or however long ) miles. Otherwise it would become an almost unpoliced drag strip Daz
Scoobylav Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Good point Daz - The is a section on the M6 just now where there is one of these "specs" systems. I think it is about 2.5 miles and there are 6 cameras So maybe on that theory you could fly along and stop for about 54 picnics on the way
jcscoob Posted July 13, 2005 Author Posted July 13, 2005 56 picnic's, and a drag race between each of them
wrxmania Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I was down to Newton Stuart from Glasgow today and they are stretched all the way from just past Kilmarnock down to Girvan - there are quite a few sets of them. You can't miss them - they are on what looks like an old fashioned lamppost above each carriageway and the cameras are yellow! Brian
