oobster Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 As above, now that the outside of the car is about finished (if anything is ever "finished") i'd like to give the engine bay a good scrub. Never done this before, so any advice would be welcome - both for cleaning products and what to actually do - i.e. is there any bits i should steer well clear of, easily broken etc. Don't want to go totally mad on it, it's my works car as well as for pleasure so it aint gonna be immaculate 24/7. Spent on hour on it after work tonight, and it's made a wee bit of a difference, but still a lot of grimy areas - i need something to remove all the greasy stuff, especially round the bonnet hinges & catch All advice welcome
wrxmania Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 CD2 engine detailer from Halfords is what you want. Two sprays - one is a cleaner - spray it on, leave it a while, then rinse it off covering alternator etc and not drowning the engine, preferable with a pressure washer. Second spray is the detailer and blackens/silicons everything - DO NOT OVER SPRAY as it looks tacky. Dulls down over a few miles to look clean and more of a matt finish. It cost £7.99 when I bought it recently. Mark Underwood aka the wax wizard is the guy to do the real job - uses his own products like Swissol and very good too. Not sure how to get a hold of him or the products, but CD2 will do the job you are looking for. Brian
RS Grant Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 Heard that you've got to be pretty careful with a power washer, otherwise things could go tits up in a big way... You'll need to cover all electrical points/plugs etc and the intercooler!! Cheers, Grant
Bing Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 Being a bit of a traditionalist I use 'Gunk', and a toothbrush and a bit of elbow grease - the results are always pretty good in my mota
