Ali C Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 << Sorry I couldn't be there but it clashed with the sprint at Boyndie. Sounds like John organised another great day, I certainly enjoyed last years event and if there is another later in the year I will try to be there. CT >> Likewise, I'd have been there on any other day. Was it the proper Sprint track distance and layout? I've never been round Alford but 65 secs for the fastest time seems a little odd... http://www.gac.org.uk/documents/alfordresults2004.pdf ...hopefully you were doing an extra corner or 2. Cheers, Ali
Iaing Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Alford is a small oval with a crossover in the centre. Sprint layout is oval first figure of 8 then oval Iain
johns Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 Ali, it wasn't the proper sprint format we were using. It's something like an extra half lap we were doing. In the correct sprint format, the start line is where we had it, but the finishing line is at the opposite side/end of the track, making it impossible to do anything close to accurate timings with a stopwatch. I'll be e-mailling out all the times either later tonight or tomorrow to everyone who took part. John
Ali C Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 << Alford is a small oval with a crossover in the centre. Sprint layout is oval first figure of 8 then oval Iain >> Not strictly, I understand you only crossover when going away from the museum so (bear with me here): Start (museum end, grandstand side) 1 full lap anticlockwise Turn left thru Crossover Clockwise round the bottom corner, up the grandstand straight & round the museum corner Turn right thru Crossover Anticlockwise round bottom corner and finish (just after corner). Were you folks hand timing? maybe you continued on to the start line again? Cheers, Ali
Rob_D Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 We were running the full 3 laps with a crossover with the same start finsh line, whereas the timing sprints run a shorter lap with the finish line at the far end of the track. To give you an idea my time yesterday was 65.7 ish on RE070's, last year with proper timing using the sprint lap setup I ran a 58.4 with standard road tyres.
johns Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 That's the times emailled out to everyone who gave me their e-mail address. Some of the handwriting was a bit suspect, so apologies if I've misread any. You can contact me if you didn't receive them. Cheers John
Ali C Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Makes sense John. Hence, 65 secs is a much better time with the extra distance. I was getting worried, my target for the July 17th event is 56.45! Ali
muddy Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Looks like you all had a really good show. Nice one JohnS. Muddy
