johns Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Just a short note to say that the event we had at Alford today was absoutely fantastic! We had a great selection of cars both on display and on track. Some very keen and impressive driving taking place! We had loads of members of the public come along and admire the cars, both on display and around the track. The weather of course was superb - I don't think we hardly had a cloud in the sky all day. Hot sunny and barely a brezze of cooling air. What more could we ask for! We also raised a lot of money for charity as well - almost £600 is going to Northsound Radio's Cash for Kids appeal. A huge mention of thanks must go to Rosie and Ali who very kindly persuaded people coming into this free event to make a generous donation. They actually raised more from donations on the gate (£348.47 I think), than people using the track. Special thanks also go to those who help run the day, Jools, Shaun, Mark, Rob, Russell, Jamie, Spooks, Ken, Simbo who did marshalling, helped to set things up and also run things on the day. Apologies if I've missed anyone outThe day wouldn't have run nearly so well without all your efforts - it really was very much appreciated. I'd like to thank PC Gary Donald for coming along in the police Impreza, and taking time out to talk to loads of people abut the car, particularly rasing safety awareness on the roads amongst our younger drivers. I'd also like to thank Glenburgie Subaru for coming along, and giving out lots of free advice on the cars, parts etc. Finally, I'd also like to thank the staff at the Grampian Transport Museum for letting us use their excellent vanue. We're already going to look at getting another weekend later this year, and we'll try and get booked up again around the same time next year. Let's make next year a really big and special event. Although we must have had about 50 - 70 Imprezas in total throughout the day, we've got space at Alford for easily 100+ more. I'm sure the first of many photos will be published soon (I'l have to wait to upload mine at work tomorrow), so everyone can see what a superb day it was. Cheers John
Gumball Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Sounds like a great day up there! There were a few of us from Glasgow hoping to attend but it just didnt materialise. Apologies for that and i'll be there next year. Sounds good
oobster Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Woke up @ 10.30am this morning, seen the sun was shining and wished i'd headed up there. Sounds like it was a cracking event too, assuming i've still got the scoob next year then i'll definitely be there.
scuba dou Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I?d like to second everything John has mentioned above?.and also thank John himself for all his hard work and dedication to the SIDC?without whom days like today simply wouldn?t happen. Well done John Stewart and on behalf of so many of us?.many thanks indeed Top marks must go to PC Gary Donald for his time and open feedback to road safety matters and for taking the Town & County sponsored WRX Impreza out on track. The car is provided by Town & County and is very much used to engage the public and break down some age old barriers between the younger generation of car drivers and the Police Force themselves. Talking to Gary was very informative and it?s very concerning to hear first hand the direction road deaths stats are going on our roads, especially amongst younger drivers (both male and female) in the 17 to 25 year old age bracket. Some great competition on track with some smashing cars out there. RobD flying the Subaru flag for the SIDC with fasted Scooby of the day with Lowell in the Honda S2000 race car taking fasted time of the day I believe. Great to meet Hi Soob and many others for the first time. Gutted that 616 ARL was not there to play, but here?s to the next time when I will have her back on the road with new brakes fitted at last. PS; the boys told mum we had her RR sport out on track at the end of the day?and she doesn?t believe them! She really should know better
Rob_D Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I second what Jools has said about John, without him none of these events would take place so cheers for another cracking day out! The staff at Alford were excellent as well, what with the few niggley problems with padlocks! Seems they were very happy with the club at how well everyone behaved on track! Enjoyed myself inmensly as well what with the weather and all, however it was getting rather hot for the turbo charged cars and my forehead, but a great show never the less. Good to see the Police taking an interest in the event, and I do believe PC Gary Donald is a car nut himself! Shame he wouldn't let me loose on his car though!! Roll on next year when we'll make it even bigger!!
micra_wrc Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 sounds like a good day. Nice to hear the feedback is all good. I wanted to go but woke up with a sore head y'day after partying on Fri night and an even sorer head this morning after partying last night LOL. looking forward to attending next year's one. Imy

Foz01 Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Great day out, my necks a bit red now! A nice tustle with a pink Nova in the morning then with the 340R in the afternoon, came good in the end after a wild attempt lol Nice to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones too, and pleased no-one complained a wee 2l NA Honda was hogging the track Cheers Lowell ps how do you resize pics so i can get an avatar?
sarahbee Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Just this minute home from the north and we are both gutted that we missed the event Nevermind tho, there is always next year
182ish Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 THANKS FOR ORGANISING SUCH A BRILLIANT DAY WEATHER COULDN'T HAVE BEEN BETTER. I MUST HAVE CHOSEN THE WRONG EMERGENCY SERVICE, IMAGINE GETTING PAYED TO TALK ABOUT CARS ALL DAY! STILL TOP MARKS TO PC DONALD IT IS A WORTHWHILE INITIATIVE AND SOME GOOD WILL COME FROM IT.
spooks Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 6am rise, 290 miles up an down and sunburnt but what can I say...........................Superb day and many thanks to all involved in this event but most of all John who did a great job. Ally and Rose really came through as well with wringing every last penny from everyones pockets. Great driving by all and Rob you were really pushing your scoob on, but what can I say about the fight at the end for FTD Well Done Lowell 64.48 IIRC very very quick. Always good to see new and regular SIDC members and lookin forward to the next event. Next time I will come out to play on this wee track...............I promise Spooks
Iaing Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Cracking day, big thanks to all those involved in organising and running the day. Really nice to put faces to the names. Couldnt have hoped for a nicer day weather wise and I even plucked up the courage to put the scoob on the track at the end of the day. Also am well chuffed with my new trophy! Iain
SIMBO Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 o yes i am also happy wiyh my 2 new trophies so you happy with the photo i posted of your car then iain? david
Iaing Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Nice pics mate, have got some to post up when i figure out how to re-size them! Iain
oobster Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 try downloading a wee free program called easy thumbs - it lets you resize pics to whatever size you want. I think it's a company called Fookes Software that make it. Quite handy
jamie_wood Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 What can I say!! Must be one of the best days all round for quite some time Cracking weather, cracking cars on track, show and the park Folk were realy friendly, there were no idiots trying to show off or cause a riot I think its fair to say that a good day was had by everyone who made the trip to support their Scottish National day. A full day of track action without a minute wasted. No off's or breakdowns Good to meet so many new faces and see some fine examples of Scoobs both older and new. Goes without saying too....many thanks to John for his efforts and also to the guys for helping out with the set up yesterday. Best of luck to Jools in his new line of work (American DJ/public speaker) To top it all of I also came home with a wee trophy for the Buggy Lets hope next years event is even bigger and better Cheers Jamie
murray_marshall Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Sorry I couldn't be there but it clashed with the sprint at Boyndie. Sounds like John organised another great day, I certainly enjoyed last years event and if there is another later in the year I will try to be there. CT
zeolite Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Absolutely brilliant day! Thanks to John S for organising the event and to all who helped out. the weather was fantastic and I have the red face and neck that I consider a badge of honour! I had a great time playing with Foz's S2000. It is a quick little beastie! It was good to watch expert hillclimbers and sprinters do their thing and show us the lines. If the event hadn't clashed with the Boyndie Sprint I am sure we would have had a few more. Thanks to Spooks and Jamie for running around helping out the event and Rosie and Ali for mugging folks at the gate. In the nicest possible way of course. Although I did see them persuading a 2 year old to give them money
WUZ Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Ditto that John - well done on a well controlled and thought out day. Good to see local constabulary joining in...see you at Knockhill in September? First time I've had the chance to drive the car properly, really should have locked up the diff a little more but the tail-happy action was too much fun! Russell ps - Toyos are no good at Alford, best start looking out the RE-070's
martyn_slorach Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Hi All, A big thanks to the organisers for a great day! My first scooby meet. Unfortunately we never arrived till mid afternoon so we missed alot but it was still worth coming to see some good driving. my missus was doing the race for life thing at aberdeen in the morning and after that it was a mad dash to alford ! I will definately be at the next one too, hope to meet some of you there. Who owns the RB5 WR sport? nice motor mate! are you a member of the rb5 owners club? Cheers, Martyn
