Mapping a 22B in Scotland

Recommended Posts

Wondered where all the Scottish folk had gone from Scoobynet and found you all here last week.

Anyhow, at last I have myself a 22B!

I'm looking into getting it remapped and am wondering where the best place in Scotland is to go. I've seen recommendations for Andy Forrest - are there any others I should consider too? The exhaust is already done with decat downpipe - all 3 inch.

I am south of Glasgow.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcomes guys face-icon-small-smile.gif

Looks like its Andy F then unless there's any other suggestions....

His website looks good and the information comes across well.

Options for remapping a 22b are

1. Motec ECU ......... about £2500 plus....

2. Pectel ................ about £2500

3. GEMS.................. about £1800

4. Apexi Power FC.. about £700

5 Dastek Unichip ... about £600

1 and 2 are the top of the tree and favoured by the World Rally Teams for the amount of features in can control and have the capacity to run items such as Water Spray, Launch Control and Anti Lag.

3 is favoured by the normal rally crews but is limited by its complicated binary based MAP

4 is the ECU favoured by the road car community for tuning potential

5 could be used to adapt the std 22b map to UK fuel

The problem with Pectel and Motec is finding some one to supply and map in Scotland, you would probably have to source an ECU and take the car down south to get the ECU mapped to the car

The problem with GEMS is similar but there are people in Scotland that can do it. Sam Ellasar AKA the Dentist is based in Dundee, Dastek in Dalgety Bay and Greersport in Beith who use Phil Marks. GEMS can be tricky to set up on a road car first time out and may require numerous call outs to iron out running bugs

Apexi Power FC is the current favourite programmable ECU of choice. One of the reasons for this is the astoundings results achieved by AndyF and others using this ECU, another good reason is he is based in Edinburgh area

The Dastek Unichip could be used to adapt the std STI 22b map to 97 RON fuel.

Hi M8

Well my 2 car's have both had the mapping done buy Sam Ellasar. and will go back to him again.

He can also map all of the above ECU's.

Thanks for all the info Grant.

I'm really wanting 2 things out of a remap I suppose. I want more power and torque of course but I would also really like to get it remapped to 97/98 RON fuel (after owning an Sti2 for 3.5 years, I'm a bit fed up with sourcing and filling up with octane booster all the time!). Can Andy F do that using the Apexi Power FC?

Colin,

First up, welcome to the place to be face-icon-small-wink.gif

Next up, on the mapping there are a number of mappers in Scotland for various systems most of which are listed by Grant (with the exception of the possum link). The most appropriate system for you depends on a number of factors like what the car is to be used for, what features are required and most importantly budget available. Geographically Andy is the closest to you, the next nearest is Sam.

Both tend to specialise in differing systems. I haven`t been keeping up to date with Andy recently but I believe he`s producing good results with the power fc (I really need to give him a call and catch up) I have been keeping in touch with Sam though who is an authorised dealer for Motec, Autronics, Gems and Possum Link. Recently he`s been abroad a lot mapping for race teams and as such quite difficult to contact, but he can be contacted. If try to contact him without any luck, drop me a mail with contact details and I`ll pass them onto him for you.

Hey contact them both, what is there to lose.

Yes , hello & welcome.

Sorry who is Sam Ellasar.

And you're Pete these guys are hard to get a hold of as they are away all the time doing mapping for rally/race teams.

Good info learnt from this page ,MEface-icon-small-wink.gif
