dougster Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 AlanG made one out of carbon fibre effect bendy plastic stuff. It looked very good. Harvey Smith has some sort of box around his induction and I am sure AndyF faricated something out of heat resistant materials. Harvey told me to get the windscreen heat deflectors you see used abroad. If you ever see a pic of his engine bay you will notice everything is wrapped in some sort of cladding to keep temps down. I made an attempt at an sheet ally box but I didn't have the tools or patience to take it any further. I still have a roll of radiator reflector sheeting if you want it.
Scoobylav Posted February 16, 2005 Author Posted February 16, 2005 Thanks Dougster I will try PMing them. Is the radiator reflective stuff you are talking about like bubblewrap with foil on both sides ?
Scoobylav Posted February 16, 2005 Author Posted February 16, 2005 We make that type of stuff where I work Dougster, but thanks for the offer.
p1ggm Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 i am going to be getting one made in carbon fibre, custom made...will let you know how i get on
john_robertson Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Thought about this on previous cars, how about two sheets of stainless or ally plate then sandwich a heat resistant barrier in between the two of them. You could shape it to your requirements adding ducting etc as required. John.
Scoobylav Posted February 17, 2005 Author Posted February 17, 2005 Gordon - That would be good let me know John - Yeah I will be going down that route, I was hoping someone had done this before so I can see where I should be fixing how big it should be etc . . . .
john_robertson Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 As for size, basically I would go for something marginally bigger than the stock airbox, basically make it as big as you can but keeping it away from any major heat sources. As for the fixing of it, I'd be inclined to look around the local area and utilize any existing fixing/mounting points or make up some small brackets. John
