ozzy Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Speed van sitting on the main dual carraigeway on the uphill section i.e. you can't see them until you're over the brow and bingo - zapped. No idea if I was caught, but I was only a few mph over the 50 limit. If I'm caught, fair muff, but I wish they go patrol some actually dangerous roads for a change. Are their whereabouts published anywhere?
colinj Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Damn, agree with they should be on more dangerous roads! Think we need a group buy on road angels
wrxmania Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Yeah - their whereabout is definately published - can't remember the site but it was updated every day. Try the Lothian and Borders Police site - I reckon it will on there. At a recent talk on Accident Investigation @ Livi Police Station, the traffic police guy/investigator said that West Lothian were reducing actively some of the speed limits (like that dual carriageway down to 50) due to the number of stupid accidents and that currently they had only bought into a share of the use of that camera van. As yet, he said they have no fixed camera sites and had tried other measures first but many were not working. That is why the barrier and slip road improvements on that Livi dual carriageways - daft driving. Origin B2 is the speed camera detector you want! Brian
ozzy Posted January 24, 2005 Author Posted January 24, 2005 That dual carraigeway is just badly designed. There's bad driving everywhere, so you've got to ask why just that road. Combine all those junctions with people not wanting to let anyone in (and others not filtering properly), it was overdue a major change. I've witnessed more accidents than I can shake a stick at down at the BP garage with folk getting rear-ended (oh, er).
wrxmania Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Yeah - that's the main reason for the major works on the road. Also, the barriers round lamp posts as they say people coming off the roundabouts too fast and hitting lamp-posts is common too. He said similar improvement measures were often carried out in West Lothian within budget restraints. The Traffic guy said West Lothian council were one of the best for responding to police advice for improving road design and layout and although more could be done, they were ahead of the game. As for the rear ending problem - as it has happened to me several times - there is only generally one or two reasons for that and that is driving too close to the car in front or approaching a car which has slowed at too fast a speed to be able to stop in time - all in, generally driver error. Hope the camera van was having a break or watching afternoon tele Brian
ozzy Posted January 24, 2005 Author Posted January 24, 2005 they've not got me yet, so I'm confident my lucky streak will continue. since I'll be selling the car and buggering off to Alaska for several months, they'll have to come and get me if they want paid

wrxmania Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Thanks - how is the wagon holding out mechanically from not moving? Are you waiting for some parts/cash/new road tax month etc? You coming to the Glasgow meet end of month? Brian
dougster Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 D: All of the above. A £1.50 crush washer (on back order from SUBARU) is keeping me from getting it along to the garage to get the service done. I still need to pick up a set of pads from Pentland Components in Sighthill and get some Millers gear/diff oil which an old friend of ours is sourcing for me.
