Guest Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 well do i buy a uk car for 6k or a 4k sti or wrx and pay the extra for import insurance?
spooks Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 If I had the choice its JDM all the way and you only ever regret buying a WRX instead off a STi. Save up and buy a real car like a new age though LOL Only kiddin goood luck with whatever you buy, maybe give JVS a call and see what they have in, seemingly pretty good. Spooks
Carl Davey Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Knowing (roughly) how old you are Ciaran i'd be a little more realistic and go for a UK. My 260bhp MY98 PPP might be worth 6k (if i'm lucky) without some of the bits on, keeps up with WRXs no worries and with the current 277bhp spec can give classic STi's cause for concern. Don't even have to worry about the fat (not 'PH' ) fuglys. On the other hand you could buy a shagged WRX for 4k or a really sh1te STi for the same. TBH, i've been looking at buying a new Scooby recently and haven't seen a single STi for 4k. I was in the same position as you two years ago when i bought mine and don't regret it. Remember, you pay insurance every year - you only pay for the car once.
nee-naw Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Looking for a wee bit more than 4k for my WRX but it certainly isn't shagged.See my previous post in the for sale section for details or e-mail to jmochan44@hotmail.com for HQ Pics
Guest Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 well carl point taken and realised it by the fact i had to just spend 250 on a car i bought for 500 and thats not even for the mot! what does ppp on a uk car include and what power is the car after it?
Carl Davey Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 My cars Subaru book figure was 208bhp. PPP is a safe bet for 235-240bhp. De-cat that and you're up to 260bhp - this was the spec my car was proved to be running prior to Apexi/turbo etc 'upgrade'. What the PPP includes varies depending on MY and what the dealer keeps for himself. On my '98 is was just the Prodrive/STi ECU & Prodrive backbox. There may have been a panel filter aswell but i bought mine on 80,000 miles and there was an HKS panel in there when i got it. IIRC the MY99/00 PPP's came with a Prodrive centre section and silicone turbo-intercooler hose as well. There was other Prodrive upgrades like the PIAAs (i got them too ) and the 'handling pack'.
Guest Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 carl what does the PPP involve? as i may buy a car without and just carry out the mods myself as i was having a look on auto trader and to find a good PPP uk car within a reasonable distance and within my budget will be a very long and time consuming task! which i cant realy be bothered doing! Also has your car been ok even with higher miles? whats the fridge at now?
Carl Davey Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 El fridgo is just about to crack 113k. Had a 36,000 mile (not km) MY99 WRX engine fitted at 98k as the bottom end went on the original one. There's nothing technical in fitting a PPP ECU or exhaust and both come up for sale regularly. Certainly cheaper that way than paying Subaru nigh on £2000.
Guest Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 how much was the new engine+ fitting? id ask ya pm me price and that but not a clue where pm's are on here? u know young paul geddes fae turriff drives a fiesta M22MGA? in my class at the college was telling me u got ripped by an evo a while back?
Carl Davey Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Lol, gotta love the Turra' rumour mill. I've seen that Fiesta about. Aye, i could make my excuses but i did get smoked a while back by the local Evo, no shame in that though imo. New engine was the best part of 2k.
Guest Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 lovely well il get saving in the antisapation of a new engine then! or better be thinking of getting a credit card! turrif rumour! no shame getting beaten by a car of the dark side at all only pokin fun!
WUZ Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Carl - I'll take yuo out for a run in the RA in the New Year and we'll hunt down the evo and even up the score shall we? Russell
Carl Davey Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Russ, i was actually watching your RA on eBay for myself. Didn't realise it was you who had bought it though until i saw you mention it on SNet. I am very jealous. On an X plate and eveything! The idea with modding my car further was to be able to even the score (i think i told you about this Evo before i started the mods?). However, i don't think my measly 277bhp will be much cop lol... Seriously considering going JDM now. Ciaran, you could always buy my car - it's already had it's replacement engine.
Guest Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 well carl might be athought! nice motor right enough.
Johnny50 Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Ciaran...you can have mine mate. Tis coming up for sale in the next weeke or so. Just waiting on wheels for it.

malky Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 All right folks, we are looking for one last big push for prezzies for the Santa Cruz for the children of Yorkhill. Please remember that this is being run by Scottish members & next year we could be delivering toys to sick/under privileged kids in your area. We need all the Scottish members to dig deep to make it a good Christmas for the kids. PS I am high jacking all the threads as I feel quite disappointed that more members are not getting involved.
