mctwistuk Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 I have been trying to get the nuts off my droplinks for a while now and have resorted to this fine tool. After 8 years of grit and grime and Scottish weather the nuts are not for coming off my droplinks. I have tried soaking in WD40, i have tried cutting off with a mini dremel tool all of which haven't worked. I have now borrowed a nut splitter which will hopefully do the trick and if all else fails i will need to hand it over to the professionals to do the job for me. I have managed to borrow quite a heavy duty nut splitter from someone as the ones on ebay and halfrauds look quite fragile. Fingers crossed it can cut the nuts off with this.
badbaz Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 When I can't get them off links we use an exhaust cut off tool, which is just a larger version of your dremmel, cut the nut down the length of the threaded section and then chap off, so you were along the right lines. Some are more awkward than others to get to though. Hope you can get the nut splitter in ok
mctwistuk Posted November 8, 2012 Author Posted November 8, 2012 Not had a chance to try it. Hopefully will try at weekend. Hope it works as I am tearing my hair out on this and can't let it beat me lol
mctwistuk Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) Well the nut splitter would only work on top nut and was too big to get into the bottom nut so am going to have to throw in the towel on this and put it into a garage and pay to get them fitted:-( was trying to learn how to do simple things but hey guess even the simple things are only simple if you know how and have the right tools. scoobywho Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 When are you next free during the day I got mine off with a bit of heat and a breaker bar just give me a bell and we can have a go save you the cost of a garage
mctwistuk Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 Weekends are only time I am free during the day. Don't suppose a sat or sun would be suitable? Would really appreciate the help.
mctwistuk Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 Ok had one last try today and woo hoo managed to get rear driver side droplink off and new one on. Now trying the rear passenger side. Should have done this when it was brighter for longer.
mctwistuk Posted November 12, 2012 Author Posted November 12, 2012 Other rear droplink done after work tonight. It was dark but picked up a handy led head torch for a quid out the pound shop. Now for the fronts when it is dry and bright lol.
mctwistuk Posted November 13, 2012 Author Posted November 13, 2012 Definitely one of those moments where you look at your handy work and feel proud even though your fingers are cut and bruised and it has taken a dozen attempts to do.
scoobywho Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Would be easier on a ramp though so you probably done well on the ground
mctwistuk Posted April 6, 2013 Author Posted April 6, 2013 Well after a long winter I decided to tackle the front droplinks this morning. They were much easier than the rears. Now I have CDF racing droplinks all round woo hoo Not bad going for a novice modder Chris
