Hilro Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 My STI was taken from outside my house the other night, after burglars found the keys. It was quickly located not too far away thanks to the tracking device and I have now got it back. The garage aren't being very helpful about what to do re future theft as the burglars still have the key. They said about £500 to change the locks but haven't come back with a final price. If I get the remote control reprogrammed then presumably it is immobilised but the thieves could get into it using the key if they wanted to? They know it has a tracker device so they'd be pretty stupid to try again.... Has anyone experienced this situation? I have the car at a garage some distance away at the moment until I sort this out.
jebus82 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 unlucky bud, good that the tracker did its job though i cant help you out regards what to do but this is the reason my good lady thinks im mad, when ever i come in i hide my keys so that if someone did break in the wouldnt find them.....2 and 1/2 years of ownership and still doing it lol
badbaz Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 This happened to me. They didn't keep the keys as if they are caught with them they are in the poo! I eventually found the keys close to the car.
lister100 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Sorry to here about theft. I have a small combination safe in my cupboard and my car keys go in there. So they are safe and sound. I tried to hide keys in past, just found safe fastest way to get keys /wallet etc on way out. Hope your car sorted soon.
Robiedoo Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 If I was you I would sell the car as soon as possible. It just wouldn't be the same knowing it had been ragged around and if they knew how to get keys last time they will know how to get keys next time.
subarucraig Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Dirty thieving scumbags can you not put your keys somewhere else not that you should have to ?
rig-pig Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 if it was me i would be changing the locks, get onto one of the guys on scoobynet that break cars and get a set with 2 keys then all you have to do is re-program the fobs ???
