Here's the update to add in details form the Northern Safety Camera Partnership

Mobile Safety Camera Unit Deployment w/c 18 July 2012

Northern Safety Camera Partnership Manager, Dougie Bennion, said: “The high volume of traffic on our roads at this time of year, particularly the A9, means that it’s even more important that drivers keep to a safe appropriate speed and show courtesy and consideration towards other road users:-

* If other drivers cause problems try to understand that they may be inexperienced, or may not know the road as well as you do.

* If you are driving a slow moving vehicle pull in to allow other vehicles to pass as frustration can cause drivers to overtake at inappropriate locations and speeds.

* If a vehicle pulls out into your path at a junction, slow down and hold back, allow the vehicle to get clear and don’t over-react by driving too close behind it.

“Good manners can go a long way to help improve safety on our roads and may even be enough to avoid a collision.”

During the week commencing Monday, 18 June 2012, mobile safety cameras will be deployed at the following locations:

Caithness and Sutherland

*Please note that the deployment schedule may be subject to change according to operational priorities and weather conditions.

The aim of the mobile camera units is not to detect speeders but to remind drivers of the dangers of inappropriate speed and of the need to slow down.

Safety camera signs at the side of the road to inform you that there is a history of collisions and high speed on the route so you should reduce your speed and take particular care.

All safety camera sites covered by Partnership have a proven history of collisions and evidence of speeding vehicles. However, drivers may from time to time see mobile cameras at other sites where both vehicle and road users are at greater risk, such as road works.
