TrackScotland Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Fee had her first shot at door to door racing..... Well for my first race outing I had an awesome time! The car was totally misbehaving yesterday and I only got out on track for 10 minutes and was convinced it was going to die in the qualifying session! Luckily, leaving it untouched overnight seemed to work magic and the car was fine today Qualifying was wet and very slippy. I'm still trying to learn the limits of the car back on normal tyres and didn't push nearly as much as I should have / could have. Because of the rain we decided to take the slicks off in the morning and get the wets fitted as it looked like it was going to be a wet day. On the first race I started 13th on the grid. Had a wee chat with Sandy Forrest beforehand and he mentioned (or maybe I just misunderstood him) to just start going once all the lights are on.....so I did! Doh! I was off and no one else was! So started trying to roll back and then everyone else was off! Worst start possibly ever! I have been creasing at the video of it!!! The track was still quite slippy and I had a few excursions onto the grass/gravel but managed to keep it going. I was behind Alex Bruce for most of the session and was determined to pass him, but went a bit too wide after the chicane and lost some ground. Finished 10th overall and 2nd in my class.....woooo! For the second race, I knew to wait for the lights to go off! My start was good and I managed to pull forward a bit. I approached Duffus and found Marco driving across the track! Managed to avoid him and carry on. Unfortunately the front facing camera had shut off by that point, so I only have a rear view of Marco off-roading! I had a good few laps with the Seat behind me.... I was convinced that he was going to get passed me on so many occasions but by sheer luck I managed to keep ahead. The rear end of the car was wild coming out of the hairpin. On maybe lap 7 the tyres started to turn to jelly and flung me wide out of Macantyres (I think) and gave him the opportunity to get through. Still....finished the race 2nd in my class again, and 7th overall Tyres are definitely passed their prime Brake pedal had a lot more travel in it when I got into the pits after the second race Bodged catch can has sprayed oil all over my engine But other than that, the car seems to be good I am definitely too 'trackday trained' though and need to learn to push more aggressively on the corners Thank you to Matty for all his help today, and to Marco for helping me out on Saturday. In typical Fiona fashion, my vids are a bit crap (I've got front facing and rear facing from race one, but only rear facing for part of race 2) - will get them uploaded tonight/tomorrow Vids Front facing GoPro in Race 1 - wet, very slippy - External hairpin - Twisty bits - Pics
johnnyr6 Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Fantastic, great write up Fee, Well done. johnny.
TrackScotland Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 race 2 footage before the battery died
marky.t.s Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Good write up Fee, I was spectating at Clarks corner most of the day,it certainly looked a bit hairy coming out the chicane a few times and the turn in at Clarks looked really greasy, even Bruces Evo was struggling to get any grip on the turn in.
ciaranrb5 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 race 2 footage before the battery died Fee was tearing away on straights the Seat seemed to catch under breaking every time? Looks like brilliant fun
TrackScotland Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 I'd imagine the Seat having a couple of hundred kg advantage over the Skyline Fee's main problem was traction.... and she also had a sierra cossie infront of her so not braking 100% normally
marky.t.s Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Just watching Fee being interviewed on Motors TV, last race just on now!
