scoobywho Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 My gearbox has jammed between fifth and reverse and is sitting in a false neutral any ideas? I put it in gor an mot and got it back like this and they wont confess what happened
stum450n Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 First thing I would do is speak to trading standards if the garage are playing silly buggers - tell the garage you're speaking to TS as well. If the garage did do anything that warrants repair and they're refusing liability, you'll be expected to document everything for court so make plenty of notes. Hopefully it won't go that far but it's always best to be prepared Good luck and I hope they sort it for you!
scoobywho Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Ive been through all that lot already it happened 2 months ago. just need it on the road again. the garage are a shower of tossers had the cheek to fail it on emmissions after it was broke. it could take 6 months in legal time and even then i dont want them to sort it
ROBBIE-T2000 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 whats it doing jammed in that high a gear if its meant to be left for mot should only be 1st and 2nd gear to take from mot bay to ramp gear lever shouldnt be anywhere near the right hand side of the car no reason to take car for a test drive if in for mot have you noticed milage rise on the car? seen ferris beulers day off?? sorry
ROBBIE-T2000 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 incase your wondering what im on about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46Y1ww57r4Y&feature=related

As for box was there not a prob with the 5 speed classic boxes whereby the nut on the end of the shaft with fith and reverse on coming losse and and so unaligning the gears causing a jam. Think Arch knows bout this if hes on here still Either way that box has to come out. Edited August 8, 2011 by Spaceman
scoobywho Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 I dont want to name them for legal reasons. apparently it happened during a brake test on possil road near maryhill. the box is now out the car and being looked at by a gearbox specialist who thinks that the selector may have shifted past the dentent due to someone going for reverse at speed
WRXStevie Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Was probably going for 6th... & found cogs !?!?!?! I think I'll definitely take above advice re: milage noting next time mine goes anywhere near a garage... I've heard of small cameras some people use (around the rear view Mirror) records EVERYTHING whilst car is out of site...
scoobywho Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 It did 6 miles extra since book in mileage on failure and actual mileage
scooby222 Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 was going to say sounds like someone going for 6th on a 5 speed and not taking no for an answer dont know about classics but know on my blob the brake test has to be done by test drive but not over 50 - get it sorted and name and shame i say!
scoobywho Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 Its the same for all awd cars they must be tested on the road from 30 they have had a thrash definately. Or put it on a proper brake tester and jammed It up
boab type ra Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 both my classic and wr1 worked fine on the the brake test rolling road never heard of a brake test on public roads
scoobywho Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 Was is a 4wd brake tester? if not then it shouldnt have been on one.
rig-pig Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 (edited) all permanent 4 wheel drive car are meant to be tested on the road or a 4 wheel brake tester due to the high chance of false readings and gear box damage Edited August 13, 2011 by rig-pig
boab type ra Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 does that mean i can sue verve for damaging ma gearbox
rig-pig Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 (edited) here is a wee snip, it will be the centre diff that brakes with this and i dont think it will damage 5th to R, just to not the garage i use to work at for 5/6 years we tested all permanent 4x4 on the road Vehicles not to be tested on a roller brake tester Certain vehicles should not be tested on a roller brake tester, eg vehicles with - More than one driving axle permanently engaged - Limited-slip differential - Belt-driven transmission - Brakes for which the servo operates only when the vehicle is moving These vehicles should be tested using a properly calibrated and maintained decelerometer or a plate brake tester designated as acceptable for the statutory tests, see Sub Section 3.7 B, page 25, and C, page 26. That is correct, if any subaru is put onto a brake tester you are within your rights to tell them to test it on the road. But these fannys have had mine out and destroyed the box going into reverse from 5th as far as the gearbox people say as it is only that shaft that is damaged
